Tonight With All The Blowjobs…

…we’re handing out to the 826 event tonight. I wonder if anyone will confront SF-J about his ass-hattery cultural criticism of Indie Rock (too white. HA HA HA) and Stephen Merritt (you know, he’s, like, a total racist) and taking The Gorillaz too seriously (seriously!).
Too bad it’s gonna be christian praise musician Ben Gibbard on stage with him instead of Win Butler of Arcade Fire.
I can only imagine the breathlessness with which these back slapping self-loving indie hipsters (Stevens, Eggers, et al.) will read his work. Thank goodness Geologic will be there so it will be “just black enough”.
And would someone please ask Eggers why there is only one woman (Rosie Thomas) booked for this event. If I were SF-J…I’d complain.

what? I didn't see Merritt or Sufjan on the lineup for tonight.
Maybe SF-J will teach Geologic about racism, or accuse Rosie Thomas of not being black enough. Sounds like a fun night!
corrected. sufjian did an event for 826 in new york last year.
so it's changed to ben gibbard, in reference to a commenter in a post about an olympia record store employee who called Death Cab a christian rock band from last year.
unfortunately google isn't being helpfull in finding that particular post....
OMG, Terry! I totally forgot about that post/comment and the shitstorm it created! Did you know that dude called me to chew me out about it? It was so crazy!
Ta-dah:

grandy, you're a lifesaver. the green flavor.
i would never have found that.
just to beat a dead horse, i like how frere-jones added credibility to their observation because they were in ui - who were infuriatingly boring. along with we and dj spooky, they made nyc seem like a film school circle jerk.
there's never been more than one adult woman performing at these events. looks like rosie thomas is inheriting the sarah vowell spot.
Ben Gibbard was not at the 826 event tonight, nor was he ever scheduled to be there. Get your facts straight.
Amber Delorme, a high-school senior, was there to perform a poem and SFJ interviewed a couple of 826 kids [both black, incidentally] on stage after they read some of their stuff. Tokenism? Maybe. Whattya want? John Roderick hosted and was pretty funny. El Vez showed up to give out hugs for money. Todd Barry was fucking hilarious.
Highlight? Easily Eugene Mirman! Funny, self-deprecating and didn't spend too much time onstage. Me loves. Eggers a close second.
