Guys, seriously, can we have a "Nipper-only" day on Slog?

The Ventures are amazing. I actually find it hard to believe that they aren't already hall of famers...

i personally have no real interest in the rnr hall of fame, but i fuggin' LOVE the ventures (best thing about the opening of the EMP ((hell, best thing about the EMP period)) was seeing the ventures for free at the mural amphitheater during opening weekend) and i am damn happy to see these fine fine gentlemen get some recognition.

here here!

The Ventures are pretty much from Tacoma. Being from the 'kan myself, I WISH they were from Spokane, but alas.
That being said, the christmas album is the only reason I get out of bed in December.

They actually did record some vocal tracks on the 1971 album New Testament. Hearing that vocal interpretation of Whole Lotta Love is all the explanation anyone could ever need for why they remain an instrumental band.

For a beginning guitar player, discovering the Ventures is a godsend. I took up guitar in the Era of the Shredder, and hearing the Ventures (and the Ramones) convinced me that I could actually learn how to play music even if I never mastered Eruption.

BTW - That they were from Spokane - "Spokane proto-rocers" was not mine. That was an editors (Zwickel? Horn?) addition, so I dunno who or where it was sourced from, but it was added after I'd split work on Friday so I couldn't get it corrected. However, I gave them the "Seattle roots" as I didn't know off the top of my head if they were from Tacoma or (South) Seattle-ish and I didn't have anyone to double check with as I (swiftly) wrote the piece Friday right before quitting work. Um, and I'm not sure what a "proto-rocer" is either...I'll find out Monday tho'! HA!

If Terry and Nipper were the music editors, the Stranger's music section would be fantastic! Insightful, unpretentious, well thought out, and absolutely of no interest to 80% of the paper's demographic.
