oh man, swept of all other categories until the very end:

category 110 (best long form music video):
r. kelly 'trapped in the closet chapters 13-22'

no love for 'the zoo' from 'double up' from the grammy board? it could've easily been slipped into the r&b gospel category without anyone noticing.

re: Jay-Z, American Gangster was WAAAY better than Kingdom Come. And M.I.A. should definitely be in there, too.

yeah, im surprised at kingdom come instead of american gangster. gangster was probably released too late in the cycle to be considered, which is dumb.

lots of love for amy winehouse. interesting.

the new jay-z album would not be eligible. neither would radiohead, just to throw it out there.

has anyone seen how poorly 'american gangster' is selling despite being highly praised? also, has anyone heard how poorly 'american gangster' sounds despite being highly praised?

This is all just going to show how completely out of touch with mainstream music I am lately. I don't own any of these albums, and LCD Soundsystem is the only one I've even heard (I think I've heard the whole thing). Not that that stopped me from voting on a couple categories . . .

jz, you have such interesting comments. i wish you would be the only writer on LineOut because me and you know that any and all talk is drivel until Santa Springsteen comes to town in April. Tell the webmeisters thank you for having the large advert on these Stranger websites. Never Forget...Eyes on the Prize...Even Conor Oberst is strangely and glaringly misquoted about the Boss in the Rolling Stone I read a few weeks ago. You're the best jz, dumb, interesting and surprising. of course my vocab is full of stupid platitudes, but you dig

Goddamnit I voted wrong on the rap album of the year -- somehow my eyes glossed over the "Kingdom Come" part of the JayZ entry. American Gangster SLAYED. I would have voted for Graduation.

I never understood the Amy Winehouse craze. And the Umbrella remixes have been way better than the actual song.

What about Peter Bjorn and John? Wasn't that this year...I guess there isn't a category for "Flat Out Awesome"....Oh well.

Shouldn't there be an 'Other' checkbox for most of these categories?

Question: what do the Grammies and Van Halen have in common?

cosby:

thx for revealing that you don't know anything about hiphop. i'll be sure to disregard all of your future rap-related commenting.
