You're right, misogynistic is the wrong word. Van Halen doesn't hate women, but they are, lyrically at least, irretrievably sexist, objectifying women in almost every song. Their music has always been laced with tedious 'nudge nudge wink wink' innuendo; boring back when I was a horny kid and even more boring, tired and irrelevant now. And don't forget that old people are boring and smell like death; just ask Grandy.
It is somewhat gratifying, though, that these greedy old farts didn't manage to sell out Key Arena for their pathetic reunion tour. At upwards of $150 a pop, it's nice to know that there are some people who know a con job when they see one.
Boy! Back when I was a horny kid, I could give a rat's ass about their song lyrics. It was all Eddie's monster guitar sound that got my testosterone a-flowing! Sounds like somebody's got a chip on their shoulder about ol' VH.
According to my Brother-In-law, who attempted to purchase tix, the show sold out in under five minutes. Then like three daze ago, I get an e-mail from Ticketmaster (I know BOO! HISS!) saying they've released a bunch more tix.
the show was indeed sold out. a couple hundred extra tickets--for seats behind the stage--were put on sale at 6 pm before the show. they sold out too.
sorry rk, but those greedy old farts are still beloved by the masses. talking to people after the show, i met nobody who felt conned or cheated. just sore--too much headbanging at an advanced age will mess you up.
clearly you never actually listened to van halen, or you would know there really isnt any sexism going on in their lyrics. sex, yes. sexism, no.
absolutley, sex yes, sexism no. I wonder why all the hate towards this show. I agree that the ticket prices were crazy, but think about it: They sold the show out, they did not over price the product if all product sold. its called supply and demand, pretty simple economic theory, I couldnt justify spending that much even though i would have liked to have gone. Same with the Police how a few months back. and no i am not some douchebag rocker from everett. just to see one of the more legendary groups from my youth in a ultra rare live performance, that sounds like something i would be into.

Well of course I've listened to (more than) my share of VH. You couldn't listen to radio or watch MTV and not be familiar with their music. Just never liked it. Too obvious. Too much a caricature, right from the start. And no, I never got in any fights over VH; although it would certainly have been typical for your average boorish VH fan to try and start something.
I'm a geezer myself but I guess I'm just not a fan of geezer rock. They can't hide the years and they most definitely can't bring it like they used to.
