Shit Talk An “Open Letter to the Fraud Calling Itself Alice in Chains”

This has been said before, I’m guessing by the same people, but according to this email that came to us over the weekend, they’re still furious:
An open letter to the fraud calling itself Alice in Chains:
This letter is on behalf of the numerous fans of Alice in Chains who are appalled and disappointed by Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney and Mike Inez for replacing Layne Staley and calling this monstrosity Alice in Chains. To have this replacement sing personal, touching and passionate songs written by the late, great Layne Staley is not only a gross insult to his memory but a slap in the face to the fans who were impacted by him.
Layne was NOT just a lead singer, but he was the FEELING in the band; the EMOTION that came through in Layne’s vocal delivery was Alice in Chains’ sound. Layne’s voice and lyrical contribution were this band’s chief selling factor, the special something that made them unique, the thing that listeners couldn’t quite put their finger on but that made the band.
Now another man, a physical substitute, stands at that microphone and delivers watered-down, weak versions, hollow versions, of the songs that defined Layne Staley’s soul.
Jerry and Sean have both said they would not replace Layne. Yet here you are touring and making new music under the name Alice in Chains.
Jerry, Sean, and Mike’s blatant exploitation of Layne’s memory in order to further their careers and dupe their fans needs to be exposed for the fraud it is.

I swear I saw this same letter in the Sunday arts section of the Seattle Times a few months back.
Anyhow, don't these people like any living artists, or are they perfectly happy back in 1993?
i wonder what their feelings are about jar of flies, the AIC tribute band.
there should be an understood clause that if a band member dies of an overdose, they can be replaced without stipulation. that should be additional incentive not to die.
i'm just saying.
To be fair, I was appalled and disappointed by Alice in Chains even when Cap'n Layne was alive and (apparently incapable of) kicking. I think "Rooster" is one of the worst songs I have ever heard and I say this having just sat through the Rage Against the Machine cover of "Maggie's Farm" yesterday just to prove to myself I could do it. Yar.
i'm mad that alice in chains existed in the first place! talk about shitty music...
He dared the rest of his band to do this. Remember? "IF ... I ... COULD ... WOULD ... YOUUUUUUUAHAHHHAHHHH?"
jar of flies? those fags were handing out flyers to their cover show in the AIC reunion show line.
cantrell has always been a whore.
Didn't Jerry do half the singing anyway?
Wait, his "soul"? dude was a junkie, his soul went the way of the buffalo pretty early in their career. His "deeply personal" lyrics were about being strung out on heroin... not exactly a hard act to live up to. Jerry Cantrell was/is the talent in that band anyways.
Jesus Christ you guys. Did all of you move here from LA or something? They have the right to do whatever the hell they want with THEIR band. And yeah, Jerry did do at least half of the singing. Considering PJ are one of the only bands left standing from that period of time it might be interesting to see what they come up with. I have to admit, I too am skeptical about them using the same name but it's their call. NOT YOURS.
If it's any consolation, AIC fans are still true to their douchebag roots.
Like, Layne was so...deep...y'know?
Like...just...deep
And...soul...and...pain.
Y'know?
*takes massive bong rip*
