Jape - “Floating”

posted by on January 15 at 11:38 AM

I love this song, it has the best first verse I’ve heard in a while:

“We took our first pill when the music whas shit / I said fuck dancing all night so that’s just what we did. / It felt like FLO-O-O-O-O-O-O-OAT, It felt like FLOATING.”

But what the hell does this video mean? Revenge of the vegans? (Even the milk gets pummeled.) Death to omnivors with a resurection of the saviour in vegetable guise?

What do you think? (Megan?) Discuss.

Btw… recently released Prins Thomas and Alex Metric mixes of this are killer!

whoa, killer song/video combination. youre right, terry--lyrically, "floating" is brilliant, and overall the song is really strong.

youtube has a video of the raconteurs covering "floating." seems like this tracks been around a while. who is this jape dude?

The simple, repetitive, but arresting use of slow-mo kind of reminds me of the video for Vitalic's "Poney (part 1)."

songs been out since 2006. was picked up by marine parade (adam freeland) for uk release and showed up on his (adam freeland's) back to mine comp. domestic release here was in november of this year. lots of great remixes of this song are out there, (all available on itunes).

"to jape" in english slang is "to jest or joke with someone". maybe that's what he thinks of himself since his myspace page describes his music as "a hundred dogs. with a guy singing out of tune over them."

he's a little more freak-folk on his regular album.

check it out!

Oh, yeah. Been diggin' Metric's mix of "Floating" since hearing it this spring. that dude can cut it up like no one's business. Freeland and Metric just wrapped up a collab on Freeland's new Hate EP, set for release in March on the marine parade label.

Yeah, veggie man was definitely lifted from Sledgehammer.

And they also took a few tips from this treatise on slo-mo destruction, by OK Go:
