Look, the Hives—if you have enough money to tote that giant neon sign all over the world, you have enough money to hang a curtain over it while your opening bands are playing.
Who cares. Sometimes I feel this blog bitches about and hypes some of the most worthless/ pointless crap ever. Shouldn't you folks be posting something better or more enlightening?
Did they really leave the sign up? How tacky (the last time they played the opener was the movie "Tron" so it didn't matter).
But was it the Hives' fault, or was the Showbox Sodo staff too lazy to cover it up for the openers? Isn't it possible that this post should be titled "Dear Showbox Sodo: have some respect for your warm-up acts and cover up the Hives' neon sign"?
Agree with props for the Shout Out Louds. They were fine at Chop Suey a few months ago and hopefully I'll get to see them at SXSW, although with so many great bands playing all over town at exactly the same times, who knows?
Wow.. not much to write about today? Most opening bands will post that photo on their myspace page so all their friends can see how cool it was that they opened for a band cool enough to afford a big fuckin neon sign. I've seen this so many times, the headliner's banner/sign/whatever behind the openers. Never once heard anyone bitch about it. I'd like to know how much the opening band got paid to play in front of that sign.. I'd bet if they're feeling disrespected the morning after, it's more about their take than about the damn backdrop.
Just Sayin.. (that's the cool way to sign off on these posts, right? Or.. That is all...)
hey poster #9 -- if you poke around the slog and lineout comments, you'll notice that NEARLY EVERY BLOG POST has a comment like yours. it's not the news, it's the rag. not worth the shit i wiped on it.

in sweden, owning a neon sign shows your stature. it's like owning a luxury car or people constantly getting your band mixed up with the vines.
Fuck courtesy.... it's a Hives show, not a "we're the warm up band" show. Deal with it.
They should cover up the sign. Yeah, fuck courtesy.
It would have more of an impact if they waited to unvail it. Also... isn't that the same sign from their last tour?

A little surprised that they're on the Sasquatch lineup. Uninspiring choice, much rather see The Shout Out Louds.
