Rainydawg Radio’s Birthday Party!

posted by on February 22 at 11:20 AM

Tonight, the UW’s student-run, truly free-form, basement-broadcasting but sadly online-only radio station, Rainydawg Radio, turns five. To celebrate, they’re bringing up Portland’s weirdo choir boys Menomena and wild mountain men Blitzen Trapper. Seattle’s own indie dreamboats BOAT opens.

Menomena - “Wet & Rusting”

Blitzen Trapper - “Wild Mountain Nation”

Update: BOAT does have a video (thanks, LanceBangsGhost), it’s just hard to find amidst all the home video footage of people’s speedboats and yachts:

The show is at 7 pm at the HUB Ballroom, $6 for students, $12 for non-students, all-ages.

Here is a music video of dreamboaty BOAT.

FYI: This show has an early 10:30 curfew. BOAT plays at 7 PM sharp.

Boy do they mean that 7 pm start time! This isn't like other rock shows, where you can lollygag until 9 pm and arrive just in time to see the last half of the opener. That very thinking made me miss the Hold Steady show last year. Show up on time, duders. Trust me.

menomena killed it- the bass hit sooooooo hard, and when they break it down they break it DOWN

seeing blitzen trapper for the second time drove home the fact that they do indeed bite wilco, CSNY, and sonic youth pretty hard. not a bad thing, but their frequent time-warp breakdowns- like menomena, b.trapper has a fondness for derailing ends of songs to matrix-land- are all show, no results.

menomena was balls out AND restrained.
