So stoked and looking forward to seeing APTBS last night... and so UNDERWHELMED. I'm glad music like this is being made today, but I don't think it elicits the amount of hype this band has had.

Pretty amazing how big of a difference between the two drummers was as well - Holy F agreeably being very tight, and the other barely keeping up with the rest of the band..

word, maybe APTBS didn't crank the juice because they weren't headlining..? I mean, with a strobe and fog machine in their show, maybe they had to spare some of the face melting thunder? I thought the stage volume was considerably loud up front, with plugs in!

goth smoth, I thought it was loose like punk rawk.. I didn't see a drum machine thooo...

I felt pretty torn on APTBS last night. I understood that the band wasn't going to be consistently loud as they were playing a club where they mic everything into the soundsystem. hell, the guitar player's amp was facing a wall... musically they were spot on and I really enjoyed the crescendoes and all in their set, along with the minimal but effective light show. what I couldn't get past were their goddamned lyics. everytime I tuned into what the singer was saying I got incredibly bummed out. his lyrical content rivaled She Wants Revenge for piss-poor gothy, broken hearted poetry delivered by men well old enough to know better. I think I wrote better songs when I was 14 (not true). anywho, I got was drunk and still bought a tshirt, so my opinion is moot I guess.

When a band is labeled "the loudest band in NY", I guess you're setting yourself up for disappointment..

re: APTBS not being loud.

The evil 'They' tore down a building on 14th that used to absorb a lot of sound. Now that it's gone, there's one very angry and/or lonely man in the building on the other side of the empty lot who calls Chop Suey's owner the minute he hears anything from the club, threatening to call the police. In fact, he voiced a complaint *minutes* before APTBS went on. You know, when the club was just playing a CD.

If I knew his name, I'd give you his number so you could file your own complaints with him.

That being said, the band still bored me. I felt like all their influences were way too recognizable and they did nothing innovative.

Isn't it a little lame that MSTRKRFT closed with a medley of Justice tunes? Sure, they were remixes — but why not close by playing your own song?

Also, those 15-year-old girls showing too much skin on stage at the end? WTF?
