Last Night Who Saw The (Sorta) Jam?

I didn’t. I went to the Sportn’ Life show @ Chop, which was cracking. This morning, not so much.
But I still kinda wish I coulda seen “From The Jam” last night @ The Moore, even minus Paul Weller.
I’m no lifelong Jam fan. I didn’t even think about them until 2005.
I was enjoying a cold one or several with my co-defendant Barfly- we were listening to this song and he said, “fuck, this sounds like The Jam”. A mental note and a trip to Everyday Music later, I was hella hooked. How did I live without this group before? Thanks, Fliz.
My favorite Jam song is “I Got By In Time” off of In The City. Weller sings “Please tell me if my philosophy’s wrong/ I’ve got to know the truth” which is awesome, because I totally write a column called My Philosophy.
So who saw the 2/3rds Jam last night? Did they play my song? Did they suck? I’ve got to know the truth.
Nope, I was drunk at Chop Suey, same as you. That is, if I am remembering correctly.
I went! It was surprisingly fantastic. That fella from The Chords sounded almost identical to the young weller. the old guys still had plenty of energy, and yes, foxton still had his mullet.
my one critique would be that it lacked any improvisation, making the entire performance seem a little bit over-rehearsed.
they didnt play your song, and i dont recall any singles being played from the first album. they didn't even play in the city. but most of my favs made it, eton rifles + away from the numbers + town called malice, etc.
it was a great time and i am glad that i went.

I was there as well. They did actually play "In the City", but they played it first. Maybe you missed it? I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was. I had expected it to be potentially kind of embarrassing. I think my favorite part of the night was when Kurt Bloch jumped up on stage and screamed "Weller is a cunt!" into the microphone, to which Bruce Foxton replied "No he's not, he's a very nice man" and then glared at Kurt Bloch the rest of the night.
Definitely NOT a show by The Jam, but a great night of music nonetheless. Having missed out on seeing The Jam live before they broke up, it was great to see Rick and Bruce playing the classic songs in the style they were intended to be played (as opposed to the watered-down versions Weller currently does in his solo shows).
It was a fun night, the band sounded great and they were all quite nice upon meeting them after the show. That said, the FTJ show doesn't come close to comparing to the energy of Paul's "solo" shows (with the incomparable Steve White on drums).
yes, we must of missed it. we walked in in the middle of "Modern World" and assumed that was the first tune.

Whoa, I didn't know it was the guy from the chords. That actually sounds better than Weller, since in my mind Weller can only be Weller from here on out, and that anything great about his music left him with his YOOF. I mean, the guy still looks great and all still, but with two decades of Rick Astley records under his belt, WHO (!!!) needs'im!
