The Animals at Night want you to remix one of their songs. The electro pimp-groove project of Graig Markel has posted an open call. The song is called “Petals Up”. The original version is on their MySpace.

Submissions are due March 24th.

Here are the tracks (230 megs, 44.1kHz stereo and mono waves): Petals Up.zip

They’re posting each remix they get on their MySpace page and website and they are going to pick one to put on their upcoming remix disc that features remixes from Kristen Hersh, Velella Velella, Daniel G. Harmann, Transmissionary Six, and others coming out in April. If they pick your remix for the CD, you’ll get fifty copies of the disc.

** Conflict of Interest (I guess). I did session work for Animals at Night and Daniel G. Harmann.

"Electro-Pimp" would make an awesome business card!

Trent,
I love your blog entries. They are quite possibly the best thing Line Out has going for it these days. I'm not trying to create any static, but isn't promoting a project featuring artists or bands you play with a conflict of interest? Where is the disclosure here?

Respect.

Dude, you're right.

I recorded in the studio for Animals at Night and the Daniel G. Harmann. I'm not in those bands though.

I wasn't trying to promote myself or the bands I play in and record for at all. (As a broke drummer, I try to get all the work I can.)

I think this is a really cool thing. If anything, I'm trying to promote whoever wants to send their remixes in. Anyone can do it. And their mix will be posted.

I'll put a conflict of interest line in there, how's that? Although now people are probably going to give me shit because I'm drawing attention to it. Either way, I'm screwed.

Thank you for your kind words.

Are you really a broke drummer, or do you just play one online for The Stranger?

i understand what dude is saying, but trent is actually more of a friend of the aan, not an actual member. here's a much better example of conflict of interest- say i was to write something about THE TRANSMISSIONARY SIX playing a show tonight at the SUNSET TAVERN. now, in addition to being friends with them, i recorded their new record, which comes out next week. to make matters worse, i even play on the record and will be joining with them to play live tonight. even worse, i'm playing bass, which is an integral part of the rhythm section, holding down what many consider to be the meat and potatoes of a rock band. i could even go farther by telling you all that the lovely and talented ZERA MARVEL will be opening, who happens to be my wife. I also play in her band and recorded her record at the recovery room (check it out at www.recoverysounds.com - yes it's my place). that would be a huge conflict of interest and way over the line. but i would never do anything like that to jeopardize the integrity of this blog. the show is early and starts at 7pm tonight.

Classic. Graig Markel, I wish I was going to that show tonight, because I'd buy you a drink.

Seattle is not a huge town. The people who work in the media often participate in the arts scene as well. Should those projects be ignored as a rule?

For instance, it would be terrible if the Stranger never mentioned Sean Nelson or Harvey Danger or Nelson does Nillson because Sean Nelson was a longtime Stranger writer who obviously still has many friends and ties to the maga... oh. wait.

Where's the editor? Unscroll the charter for consultation on where the lines are placed!
