Stream the New R.E.M. Album

Not sure if you care about R.E.M. headlining the first night of Sasquatch? Me either. Asking around, it would seem I only know one person who “really likes” R.E.M., the rest of us just sort of tolerated them throughout the nineties (and were too busy being 5 to listen to them in the eighties). As a child, my opinion of Michael Stipe did rise after I saw him in the “Mr. Tastee” episode of Pete and Pete. It dropped right back down after seeing the video for “Everybody Hurts” 10,000 times. I am currently indifferent. The buzz around their new album Accelerate seems initially positive - now you can decide for yourself by streaming it here. Accelerate comes out April 1st.

Not sure if anyone pointed this out, but it looks like the Seattle Times is dissing Line Out.

"But like anything that's popular, the station has its haters. An ongoing and exhaustive online "Stranger" forum, for example, takes issue with its expensive and failed effort to expand into Tacoma and Olympia in 2004, its talent and management salaries and even its musical choices."

Looking back through the comments Trent, that's pretty clear, and I agree with your view about the kexp bashing. I was remembering the comments including a lot of bellyaching about giving money to kexp to support john's salary and lifestyle and that this was just generally a sellout or kexp/john was relocating to nyc.

This post is just ignant. I was busy not even being born yet when Chronic Town and Murmur originally came out, but despite the montrosity that REM became in the 1990s, they had one of the most unique and intriguing sounds that a relatively straightforward American rock band has ever conjured up. Do yourself a favor and check out REMs entire 80s output. Actually a lot of their work from the 90s is really good too, but thats another story.

Nevertheless, count me as a proud entrant into the "really likes REM" camp.

I don't expect you to get it. This band changed music as we knew it in the 80's. There was nothing else like it anywhere! - truly alternative. I stopped listening to REM in the 90's because it just wasn't the same but I will always appreciate what they did for music.I like these new tracks!!!

Reckoning is quite possibly one of my favorite albums of all time. All their records up til Life's Rich Pageant were phenomenal. Green was pretty solid, and Out of Time is great once you take all the singles off of it.
