The Next Act

posted by on March 10 at 14:27 PM

The next Fresh Prince is not…

…50 Cent.

Reports the New York Magazine:

…Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were in The Godfather: Part II but shared no scenes; in Heat they were together in only one. Now, finally, in Righteous Kill they’ll act alongside each other for an entire movie (as grizzled, corrupt policemen pursuing a drug-dealing assassin). What’s the problem this time? Apparently it’s that some of their scenes are also shared with 50 Cent. In this second, brand-new trailer for Kill, great pains were obviously expended to make sure we see as little of 50’s acting as possible. Since we like the guy, we were hoping he’d gotten better since 2005’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (in which he failed to convincingly play himself), but the fast-cut editing here makes that seem unlikely. Sure, he’s in there, we guess — turning his head! Hanging up a cell phone! — but given that he plays the villain, it’s probably a bad sign that we don’t even hear him speak, right?

It’s a very bad sign.

Pacino and De Niro were in two scenes together in "Heat"--the discussion in the restaurant, and the showdown at the airport.

But I'm sure it's still true that 50 Cent can't act.

I saw get rich or die trying, and frankly, Vanilla Ice would have been a better choice for the lead. He's been in more movies, too.

But hey- Mos Def, and Tupac can (or could) act, Ice Cube is the new Rodney Dangerfield, Ice T can play a convincing kangaroo or a cop, Method Man can act so broadly his fellow actors shoot him, Busta Rhymes can be a sidekick, The Fresh Prince can act but he cant rap, Ja Rule can look tough, Queen Latifah can fill the screen, Eve can look pretty, and Ludicris, Medium Bow Wow, Eminem, MCA, Big Boi, and Andre 3000 all can at least get in movies.
And the Fat Boys STOLE Krush Groove, as far as I am concerned.

Personally, though, my favorite rapper in a movie has gotta be Bushwick Bill....
