BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i'll still foxwit World Of Noise tho
Having a band named after a 190-proof alcohol playing for their followers - that's rich.
Gross. Wow, Art looks like he's about 90. I had no idea he was so full of crap.
Wow, I can have rock music and tattoos and still hate women and gays? Awesome!
I was bummed when I saw the ad for this the
other day. I used to really like them.. :(
Both are worse than I thought! Together sounds like a black hole of suck and spit.
Mars Hill what a fucking joke! Go ahead and call this stay at home dad a sinner you tattoo wearing pieces of poop!
I would love to see a Stranger write-up on New Horizons. They have been ubiquitous in street ministry, and I have heard mixed things about them.
glad to see someone pointing out that Mars Hill, for all its pandering to youth culture, is not a progressive religious institution. my parent's american baptist church in colorado springs (hometown of Focus on the Family) is more forward-thinking than the Ballard "rock church"
Biggie, what a sinner you are. Repent, I say!
Whoa... Everclear? At freakin' MARS HILL?!! That's like the perfect storm of douchebaggerey.
Oh hey, for anyone who wants to read an entertaining bit where Art A. gets into the fray in the 'comments' sections of an article about him and makes a total ass of himself:
http://wweek.com/editorial/3228/7560
I thought he was "happy in hell with his heroine girl......."
POSER!
Who gives a shart what venue they're playing in? It's a charity benefit for christ's sake. You don't have to be a football fan to play at the superbowl.
Also, it's important to note that this is a charity benefit for a homeless youth ministry called New Horizons Ministry, which states on its website that it is dedicated to "serving youth without regard to religious beliefs, race, color, gender, national origin, sexual orientation or handicap." I'd play at the Republican National Convention if the proceeds got kids off the streets.
the irony is thick with this one
a "rock" band playing at a "church"
Everclear doesn't come close to rocking
nor does Mars Hill represent much of anything Jesus said or did.
when will these folks get a collective clue and realize they're irrelevant to everyone outside of their own little world they've built around themselves.
give it up already.
to Mars Hill: you should read the Bible sometime, you may be startled about what it actually says.
to Everclear: just ditch the electric guitars and theatrics and join Wayne Newton on the Vegas circuit.
Jesus was a guy who walked around in our neighborhoods and loved and served the people the world would tell us weren't worth it. This is a historical truth that noone debates anymore. That's what we do at New Horizons Ministries, and Mars Hill is a supportive partner of ours. We're just trying to equip and empower the lives of Seattle's street youth and Everclear has a heart for this work as well. I serve as Development Manager here at New Horizons Ministries and would love the opportunity to share more about our work, and how Jesus fits into it. We don't worry about religon so much, just Jesus. Peace....
I also noticed in the ad in the Stranger that it seems that Supergenius Tattoo is sponsoring this. Damon Conklin (owner) is a religious nut who treats his female employees (the few that he has, mind you) like trash. If you don't like Mars Hill and what they stand for, boycott Supergenius Tattoo as well!
might as well boycott the stranger too, they accepted money to run an ad for mars hill!
sarcasm is hard to shower online.
When will we get some evangelical luv from...
*breaks ten sheets of thick ice with elbow for the lord*
GRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHHH
This is good news that Everclear and Mars Hill are doing this benefit to raise money for Seattle's street youth. I say boo to all of the negativity on here and Yeahhhh to helping the street kids!
Fuck 'em. They deserve each other.
@15 - why dont you tell the people on this thread more about what you do? "Serving youth" is a pretty vague way to put it, dude.
By "serving" do you mean helping them get food, shelter, and hopefully jobs? Or do you mean indoctrinating them with backwards right wing ideas, or both?
Jesus was cool and is still very much relevant in modern life. You seem nice, but a blanket term of "serving youth" doesn't say much of anything.
Oh yeah, and if you don't think that the ideology of Mars Hill Church matters because they're supporting your organization, then get real. Would you accept a public donation/charity event from say, NAMBLA? They'd sure like to serve some youth I'm sure.
MONEY ALWAYS COMES WITH STRINGS ATTACHED.
Love,
Eric Sullivan
lol go get em sully!
srsly tho, estey: you should write that article
the power team used to come to my PUBLIC junior high and explode hot water bottles with their lungs for jesus. i wasn't impressed, but when they tore a phone book in half, i converted. that shit is HARD!
Edward Fedele
can an atheist gay, shit for that matter, a christian gay (I know there is no such thing as a christian gay) work at Horizon?
@7 We like to call them "Focus on the Wallet". Tee hee.
Wow, pretentious scoffing!
I can't believe how judgemental and negative everyone in this thread is...benefitting the poor, that's a damned shame, huh?
Mars Hill is actually famous for controversial statements, challenging the right wing and broken religion. If that crap makes you're skin crawl, you'd have to like MH, because the teaching pastor, Mark Driscoll, rips them a new one all the time...'fundamentalist christians' actually hate Mars Hill.
BEFORE I MAKE CONDESCENDING PUBLIC STATEMENTS, I LIKE TO GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT, BUT THAT'S JUST ME.
