i have to agree. this was a terrible idea.
fuck him and Perry Farrell
Noel's playing a little game with the press. It's called "say something completely ridiculous in hopes the press will pay attention to his painfully irrelevant third-rate Beatles cover band."
Ta-da!
Or, as Idolator phrased it yesterday: "Gallagher Brother Goes "Veiled Racism" Route In Effort To Get Back Into News (And It Works!)"
He'll never top "Wonderwall".
he can't be this dumb.....he did that joke song on the british office holiday special dvd w ricky gervais!
@5:
don't you mean he'll never top 'revolver'?
Ha!
When you dis Oasis, you only dis yourself.
Still, is getting on Jay-Z's bad side ever a good idea?
yeah kirk, cause jay z will kill him?
RACIST
Jay Z will no longer shout out Chateau Le Frères Gallagher Champagne in his raps!
Well, if Jay-Z headlining isn't the reason for the slow Glastonbury ticket sales, what is? Mind you, I don't give a damn about either Jay-Z or Oasis, but it's still a valid question. Anyone got a plausible alternative explanation?
Noel's just going for media outrage, just like he's always done.
Anyone hear the on-the-downlow hip-hop album he cut in the late '90s, titled Too Bloke, Too Strong?
Damn...I was just bumpin "Whats the Story.." the other day. I love that album but Noel Gallagher is an idiot. This isn't the first time he's made a statement like this either..
i agree with noel. bad move. it's not racist at all, gimme a f$%^in break. drop the elitist music snobbery – definitely, maybe and what's the story... are absolute undeniable classics. you know it's true. you'll be more comfortable to admit it in 5 years.
Noel's head looks like it was photoshopped onto a smaller body.
meh. It's hardly racist to blame a headliner for lackluster ticket sales. Every festival has its own identity. When a festival loses its focus and tries to appeal to a broader audience, blandness will surely follow sooner or later. This is just another sign that Glastonbury is no longer very relevant anymore (and hasn't been for a while, imo).
Look, he's probably no more racist than any other working class Englishman, but I wouldn't exactly trust him to suss out causality in this or any other situation. One might as well blame the Glastonbury documentary for spoiling the festival.
Isn't the weather a factor? Apparently it has rained for the past three years straight, and people just got tired of camping in the mud.
Kanye headlined Bumbershoot a couple of years ago, and it was the best one I've been to (out of 4, but still). Oasis sucks.
There is absolutely -nothing- racist about his comments.
Vehemently not liking hip-hop does NOT equal racist. It might mean that you are discerning and possibly closed-minded about your preference in music, but it is not a race issue.
If an event sells out within hours for years and one year sales are down when a rap entertainer headlines that just means that those folks aren't into rap. Not a big deal. Let people like what they like without making a big deal about it or inciting irrelevant issues like race.
Jebus.
Wow. Stephin Merritt of the Magnetic Fields got kicked around much worse for merely not having a personal taste for hip hop (and saying the "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" song was catchy), not calling for its exclusion from a festival. Let's watch the fireworks commence!
what stealingzen said. glastonbury was always about guitar music and not 31 flavors of music. noel put it rather inelegantly, but he's right on the money. as he usually is.
i think this in in britian at a rock show...
