god, those other bands SUCKED. Thurston was entertaining though. My friend was too busy stalking the Donnas to notice the show.

"Battle of the bands" bands were painful to behold (and these were finalists? eep.) Bamboo Shoots did not rock. In retrospect it's not surprising (they are a "zouk" band ... maybe they zouk-ed?) but I formed expectations from the huge ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE slideshow projected behind the bands all night. It had pointy letters and even a KISS "I Love It Loud"-inspired graphic. Anyway, thankfully, Thurston's performance was awesome and made it worth sticking around. As did the complimentary drinks. What was up with his Nifelheim shirt though?

There is no denying the pain brought on by the opening circus, but Thurston fucking murdered it.

Hopefully, those free drinks helped soften the blows delivered by the onstage visuals and the truly awful Bamboo Shoots.

Thank god for Fourcolorzack and Mark Arm.
