What does it mean when people start holding up Something to Right Home About as a paragon of emo?

If you're going to get all 2nd wave about it, at least go back a couple steps to Braid or Cap'n'Jazz—something to Rites of Spring home about.

Sorry, I wish I didn't care about this pointless, lost battle, but I so do.

Comment by s. o'shea

This article was complete BS, and extremely misleading to anyone not already familiar with My Chemical Romance or the current emo scene. "The Black Parade" is not a spiritual belief at all... it's the name of their album and a pseudonym. It was a concept album about the death of a cancer patient and what happened after. At their concerts, they'd play as MCR for a while, then change costume and return as "The Black Parade," which was a different band with a more subdued persona, and then they would sing their newer material.

As for the rest of the article, the idea that My Chemical Romance of all bands would cause suicide is absurd. They released a DVD detailing the lead singer's own battle with depression and addiction, and how he overcame it, in order to lead by example and help fans overcome their own problems. On top of this, at all of their concerts and in some interviews, he makes speeches about how, if you feel depressed or suicidal, or know someone who is suicidal, please please talk to an adult or get help immediately. Even in front of their songs that use relatively violent imagery, they'll include disclaimers about how "violence is never the answer; if you're unhappy please get help." The Black Parade includes lyrics like "I am not afraid to keep on living / I am not afraid to walk this world alone." I don't know them personally, but the insinuation that they could assist a child's suicide would probably crush them.

In other words, please, anyone, do your research before you take this article seriously.

Ohhhh speaking of Emo. Anyone else remember when Antioch Arrow put out that goth record as a joke? Well, they SAID it was a joke, but really, can a whole albums worth of new material really be a joke? It's pretty bad for the most part, but compared to any of this, it's actually pretty amazing.
