Line Out - Comments on Silent But Deadly

The successful "stealthy" release of the last Raconteurs album has, in typical music industry fashion, been co-opted by people who have no idea what they're doing. Apparently, the next Beck album will be "stealthily" released in the next month...

'sweet caroline' is succinctly about one thing though. beck's lyrics are unrelated pop culture references mixed with hispanic iconography. to become the next neil diamond, beck would have to write a song that makes sense, which i'm not sure he is capable of.

Damn, I couldn't agree less. One thing we don't need any more of is Neil Diamonds. One is more than enough, thanks very much, and I'm glad to see that this one is just about worn to the bone.

Personally, what I always wanted was for Beck to become the next Elvis Costello - smart, angry jazz inflected hip hop beats with indecipherable but still somehow brilliant lyrics. What we REALLY need is another "Peace, Love & Understanding."
