News Statement about the Folklife Shooting

A statement for Line Out from Tonya Gustafson, Folklife Spokesperson:
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, there was a scuffle between two men, and a shot was fired. This was an isolated incident. In thirty-seven years of the Northwest Folklife Festival, it has never happened before.Based on the security protocols of Northwest Folklife and Seattle Center, the Seattle Police Department was in the area and apprehended the suspect immediately. Two individuals were taken from Seattle Center with non-life-threatening injuries. One victim was shot in the hand and the other in the leg.
The festival did not skip a beat. Programming continued as scheduled throughout the weekend.

2 hippies - 1 bullet. not bad.
That's odd. I was there and saw the girl on the ground covered in blood and it didn't look funny to me.
But I stand corrected by the great and terrible bobcat: innocent strangers being shot really is funny.
Freak.
Bobcat - Way to stereotype innocent victims. It's clear that you do not attend Folklife. Maybe if you knew anything about the festival you would realize that the only thing it has to do with hippies is that it began in that "era."
However, maybe the rest of us are better off celebrating the arts and Seattle's talented multi-cultural community without your idiotic presence.
My coaching to NW Folklife would be to trumpet their seamless operations less, and their compassion for the victims more. Plainly stated: Who cares about you "not skipping a beat" when people have been shot?
Bad form.
Dude... boobcat was making a joke... stop being so sensitive and take it for what it is. No one gives two licks if you're into "celebrating the arts and Seattle's talented multi-cultural community" or whether you're offended by someone else's right to free speech. Get off your high horse and take a joke for what it is.
I agree with the fact that Free Speech is someone's right and they can exercise it. BUT it still doesn't change the fact that the "joke" was not only offensive; but very very bad form. I'm sorry; I don't laugh at "jokes" which depict senseless violence as being a laughing matter. 3 people were shot that day with one bullet (Yes, there were three people. One in the nose, one in the hand, and one in the leg). I was there; just a stone's throw away from the shooting. Extremely fucking scary. There were children walking around, families, innocent bystander's, and yes: Hippies. So what? INNOCENT people were SHOT; those people could have been my wife, children, my friends, or me. Not fucking funny at all. Very very bad form indeed.
It was a decent joke, give credit where it's due! For this little blurb '2 hippies 1 bullet' is a pretty good attempt at humor. Nobody died, so please do get over yourselves.
