Fierce femmes and synchronized swimmers, I mean synchronized dancers Team Gina have a brand new disc out today, Products of the Eighties, on Don’t Stop Believin’ Records. They also have a brand new locally shot and directed video for new song Rock The Like

There’s a CD release show tonight, 9 pm, at the War Room. I’ve yet to see them live, but I’m told seeing *is* believing. Bow chica wow-WOW.

Did the hipsters just discover Fame or am I just getting to old for this shit. Wait I'll answer that myself.
Cute and hokey but I guess thats the point.

This is FUCKING AMAZING!!!

They're like, early Beastie Boys except they're chicks and there's only TWO of them and it's twenty years down the road!!!!

Will miracles never cease?

god, this shit is awful.

early beastie boys? easy.

fucked up to say, but Licenced To Ill era Beasties were lyrical masterminds next to this.

more power to em but please don't confuse this with hiphop. shit like this makes me all starchy 'culture warrior' and i hate that

This is like watching grown white women try to ride around on the same set of training wheels Lady Tigra threw away about 10 years before L'Trimm blew up.

Why does the fit one make the "fish lips" face every two seconds? Is that supposed to be hot? I threw up in my mouth a little when the fat one's shirt came up and showed that mound of gelatinous flesh.
Why are they getting press? This is awful...really...ATTENTION CAPITOL HILL HIPSTERS--rehashing 20 year old shit is neither funny nor ironic.

They are probably really nice, so everyone is all like "Awww, look they are having fun, why hate, let them have their fun up on stage." Wasn't there a whole topic about that tendency recently?

Anyway, I bet that guest slogger listens to this.

"fat one"? They're both pretty hot. That much I'll give them.

Of course you'd think that...Seattle is one of the handful of places where fat chicks are considered hot. Think I'm being crude...take a look next time you're downtown at how many women are bigger (fatter) than their boyfriend. Seattle fat chicks have somehow tricked guys into thinking it's okay to have an ass 2 axe handles wide. Good for them I guess...just doesnt fly other places

Judas fucking Priest that was horrible.

all you hyper critical types need to calm down. Team Gina doesn't posit themselves as beastie boys-style rappers... they steal from just about all of the pop culture lexicon, they're hilarious, they're great live, and if THEY don't take themselves too seriously, i don't understand why YOU are.

Posted by sofie | June 18, 2008 3:46 PM

Guess we should try to be more like other places, huh @12?

I think Team Gina is great. It is sad that some people can't allow others to have fun and live their dream! I wonder how immature and cruel someone has to be to make personal attacks about people they obviously don't know! Gina Bling is a great talented and beautiful woman. Seattle is a great place where people are mostly open and kind, maybe you should try it!!!!

WHERE DID THIS COME FROM, REALLY?
(aka wow, you really went there, fucker)

"Of course you'd think that...Seattle is one of the handful of places where fat chicks are considered hot. Think I'm being crude...take a look next time you're downtown at how many women are bigger (fatter) than their boyfriend. Seattle fat chicks have somehow tricked guys into thinking it's okay to have an ass 2 axe handles wide. Good for them I guess...just doesnt fly other places"- AM I THE ONLY ONE.

-actually, you are not the only one.

what you are is another asshole.

which is fine, but please tell us what you are really trying to say in your rant.

if you are to critique the music and if it sink or swims in the market, indie or mainstream, that is one thing.

to each his own.

however you did not do that. you found your soapbox to say,

"Seattle is one of the handful of places where fat chicks are considered hot."

-wow, really.

then you go further into the rant with,

"Seattle fat chicks have somehow tricked guys into thinking it's okay to have an ass 2 axe handles wide."

-so this is your final copy, right.

you must of lost alot of sleeping to come up with this draft of shit.

entertain me, please, what is your rant about? you obviously think something needs changing, i get that, but what is it?

i'm a fat chick looking for substance to chew on.

GIVE IT TO ME, TWO AXE HANDLES WIDE, if you please.

God bless the internet for FINALLY giving misogynistic fatophobes a flag to wave. Anonymously! It's about time us Seattle women were given motivation to develop the anorexia it takes to compete with "other places" by some jerkoff who felt the need to share. Seriously, go fuck yourself. Do it with the lights off in some private stalled bathroom and make sure to wear a bag over your head so no one knows it's you.

Things that weren't cool in the eighties and still aren't:

(please take note hipsters)

1. Nagel / Anne Geddes / Anything with animal prints
2. Hall n' Oates
3. Hypercolor
4. Clam Digger shorts
5. Hip sacks
6. Zebra Club
7. Wearing those aerobicizing leggings out when not doing such an activity.
8. Demim shorts cut off below the ass
9. RAT TAILS
10. Neon colored sunglasses and 'hipster hangover' way oversized sunglasses
11. Overalls
12. Spandex
13. Bedazzlers
14. any cliche 'retro' shirt from Hot Topic or Urban Outfitters with My Little Pony / Snorks / Super Mario etc. Hell, anyone who shops at either of those overpriced shitholes needs to be drawn-and-quartered.

Kudos for doing what they're doing, but seriously that shit sucked then and still sucks.

Hhmm....let's see. I am from nowhere near Seattle and I think Gina Bling is totally hot. No, wait, SHE IS totally hot. Interesting you feel like such a worldly fucker that you can make assumptions about EVERY OTHER PLACE ON EARTH. Proof right there that you think your shit don't stink....too bad I can smell it from here. Somebody lied to you....so sad... Good luck in life pal... judging amazing people who are just trying to live their lives with love and respect...you're going places.

Team Gina consists of two wonderfully creative, beautiful, sweet women who are willing to have fun and celebrate life's complexities without taking themselves too seriously.

Bling "fat"? Oh, jeeze are we really on that now? She's gorgeous. Get over it.

When will we stop projecting our feelings of inadequacy on to others and just accept the beauty and diversity of the human body?

Life is so much better when we learn to play with others.
Especially when they're as dope as Team Gina.

Born in the 80's. Raised on Whitney Houston and MTV. Team Gina takes me back!!

I loved the show last night!!! It's that simple. The post was about a live show, and they ripped it up from the start to the finish and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

And from an actual, fishnet stockings-wearing, tight shirt-owning, REAL Big Gurl(Gina Bling-Fat: WHERE???), DO WHAT YOU WANT & DO IT BIG!!! If you don't love yourself, don't put that shit on nobody else but YOURSELF.

Genius, you are amazing and out of control.

Bling, you are beautiful and your talent is sharp as hell.

Team Gina, congratulations on the new album. I will be picking up a copy and using my dollars to talk.

Team Gina is not doing something that has not already been done. But they do what they do well. I love their shows. they are a good time. They are nice people.

Both of them are fucking hot.

hey, bobcat!

are you kidding me.

"things that weren't cool in the 80's and still aren't"

i know you are joking.

i know you are just playing.

'cause
i'm not feeling your hate list on 80's.

I'm mean the Huxtables.
nobody bad mouths my Denise Huxtable.

seriously, it's about to get ill.

bobcat, or should i say, "Mr. Blackwell",

what do you consider cool from the 80's, since you seem to have it on lock in your memory.

if you say Ann Murray...swear to god..i'll..

I couldn't make the show but I already know these two women are amazing, talented, beautiful people.

To the anon. blogger who used FAT as if it is a swear word: It is obvious that you not only need some schooling on how to respect the HOT fatties of the world but you also need to recognize great music when you hear/see it.

Here is somewhere to start: Read this book... FAT!SO? : Because You Don't Have to Apologize for Your Size.

I'm glad the musicians I love and respect do not support fatphobia/transphobia/homophobia or rascism. I know how to pick my heroes.

Educate yourself fatphobe...you'll be so much happier in life.

Hotness does not equal fantastic music! The production sounds like a sample "hip-hop" beat from Fruity Loops with basic & boring rhymes laid over. The whole thing reminds me of an "Almost Live" skit.

Sorry, fans, but just 'cause they're fun and attractive and following their dreams doesn't make for good music.

But seriously, did someone refer to them as being up to par with the Beastie Boys??!! Please, go check yourself and give a good and hard listen to "Paul's Boutique."

I've watched the video twice now and it hasn't gotten any better. Sorry it's as entertaining as a overcooked piece of broccoli or a current SNL skit. Oh... in no way are Team Gina fat. I don't get that comment at al.
Sad,really sad.

I'm so tired of people blogging about people's weight. These people do not have a life if they spend all of there time online looking for someone to hurt. Not everyone is a size 2 or should feel they have to be. Bling is beautiful and I don't understand how can anyone think she is fat. People come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and they are beautiful the way they are. Making comments on people's weight is the same as making racist remarks, they were born a different size or color same thing. Society's standards on what women are supposed to look like is outragous. I spent 15 years of my life with anorexia, I starved myself, obsessivly exercised, took laxitives, did what ever it took nearly killed myself to live up to a fake image shown in the magazines. I had no idea as a teenager that they photoshop models imperfections. Women need to take a stand and unite against these standards, be happy and accept our bodies. These women who insult other women's bodies are pathetic.
Team Gina is awesome, they are talented and beautiful. Besides didn't your mother teach you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all!!

LOL look @ this here! I think the weight commentary is totally unnecessary but I still can't fuck with Team Gina McGinastein. I'm sure Weird Al and Afroman are the life of the party too but goddamn, stop rapping. Labels need to be giving Nikki 2States, Byata and Rece Steele record deals instead of this fuckery.

But giving people a pass to make shitty music cuz they're such cool, fabulous people? Over at 206 Proof we have a term for this extremely Seattle phenomenon: SOYGNH

Can we stop talking about how fat she is and start talking about how rich white women can mock black culture and get cred for it? Why don't they just do blackface next time?

Posted by MoneyPants | June 19, 2008 2:03 PM

woah 37, do you really know that they're rich? (or even white for that matter? okay wait, yeeaah that one's probably right...)

but mocking black culture? why, because they're wearing adidas and referencing a lot of things in the pop culture vocabulary? you have artists like Little T & One Track Mike, for example, THAT shit is mockery.

easy research reveals Team Gina's aiming at "80s pop mash-up" not "hip hop cred" anyway.

pretty sure i like this band. judging a group entirely on the basis of one video = not the wisest.

I find it amazing that in 2008 there are some people who feel the need to comment on women's bodies, make assumptions about race and socio-economic status, and whether or not Team Gina is fuckable.

It's too easy to sit and write drivel about people. That is the problem with anonymous blog postings. It takes me back to high school lunchroom, bathroom talk, popularity contests and all the "crap I learned in high school. "Don't like a video, don't watch. Don't like the music, don't buy the CD, and don't go to a show. However, attacking people is not only sophomoric it is embarrassing to the attacker.

Here's a suggestion: Rather than maligning someone, why not go out and DO something to benefit your community. Help someone learn to read, write, or dance. Just think, if all the energy, time, and wattage used to rant were used to better your/my/our community, Seattle would be even better.

PS.I love watching Team Gina perform live. Of course, I get satire.

Team Gina does not write their own beats.
They are pop stars. Team Gina has Rhymes for days. Team Gina is HOT. Team Gina is having fun and not taking it all so seriously. More importantly, Team Gina is DOIN' IT! and you're just sitting on your computer judging them! Get off your lazy ass and make your own music, no one is askin' you to listen to theirs!

Thank you for having my back, friends.
It makes me sad that someone would think it's ok to say such mean things about my body.
Also, I'm not rich, but if you want to make me rich, I'm totally ok with that.
