Video Perfect List

I know (you know), not another Entertainment Weekly list, right? But this Michel Gondry cutated list of 25 classic music videos is actually worth checking out (Stereogum collects them all on one handy page here) if for no other reason than it includes this fantastic clip for New Order’s even more fantastic “Perfect Kiss,” which flips the conventions of the studio/performance video to create something more like uncomfortable verité (also: frog noises!), and which I’d somehow never seen before today:

Damn Hooky! How can you be so amazing and yet look so silly at the same time?
this video has everything going for it. jonathan demme ('stop making sense' is still the best tour movie ever), an intimidating synthesizer bank against a wall, close up on a (sunburnt?) bernard sumner hitting a cowbell repeatedly. this song has some of new order's worst lyrics, yet has one of new order's best synth riffs - so necessary.
also, gondry likes 'bust a move'? what, no 'can't touch this'?
Oh shit, did someone just open the New Order: Worst Lyric/Best Riff can of worms?
The singing isn't also the best, but I remember watching the Finsbury Park DVD and thinking that the band has developed as a much better live act later in their career.
i smartly used 'some of' and 'one of' to avoid an arguement. worst lyric / best riff could easily go on for pages. '60 miles per hour' - ftw.
