The Juan Maclean Post Show Argument

posted by on September 11 at 9:33 AM

The Juan Maclean at Nectar Last Night

The DFA superstars spliced up big, tight sections of 16th beats and tectonic shifting dance music. Maclean is an incredible theremin player, layering its spooky sound perfectly over the grooves with effects. Nancy Whang from LCD Soundsystem took the thereminís space aged cue and was orbited in her vocals with some slap back delay. Whang is as nice a person as she can be.

After their set, drummer Jerry Fuchs was talking about these Simmons electric drums (the six sided pads) which he runs into a Tama brain. They give off such a bulbous tom sound:

In-ear monitors were then brought up, Maclean chimed in, and the argument ensued. Apparently Maclean once left Fuchs behind in Albuquerque, NM for complaining about sound and threatening to get in-ear monitors. Fuchs has some things to say about it.

Warning: this video contains profanity. Is the argument real?

Is the argument real? He really left him behind because he had monitor issues? No way, it's gotta be a joke, right?

that footage is classic. Awsome Awsome show BTW..... Incredible; really.. when you hear people talking about live electronic music it usualy means a dude staring at a Laptop, but The Juan Maclean at Nectar last night was ridiculus. Head Like a Kite brought it too..and Copy is one to watch for sure...
if you like dance music, that was the shit.

a couple years ago, I promoted a Juan Maclean /James Murphy DJ tour and got to hang out with them all day and their banter was very much like that video. it's all tongue in cheek....it never stops either...constant ribbing and smart ass comments.
I had a blast hanging with them...
