Earth, the best band named after a planet, are playing Vera tonight.

Listen to “The Driver” from Earth’s latest album The Bees Made Honey in the Lions’ Skull

No-Fi Soul Rebellion - “No-Fi Soul Rebellion’s Dance Challenge”

No-Fi Soul Rebellion play White Center’s new all-ages venue/ice cream parlor/pinball arcade venue Full Tilt.

Living Legends are at Neumo’s and Graves celebrates a CD release at Nectar—and both acts got some love in this week’s My Philosophy. Good luck deciding between the two, if you’re hungry for some hiphop. (Hear Living Legends here; hear Graves here.)

The Headhunters play the Triple Door for the second night this week.

And finally, here’s what this week’s U&Cs offer:

Heart - “Barracuda”
Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick
(White River Amphitheater) This triple-whammy of FM rock royalty couldn’t land at a better time. Thanks to the McCain campaign’s appropriation of “Barracuda,” Heart—whose Ann and Nancy Wilson have pledged to donate the song’s licensing fees to Obama—are the most politically relevant band in the country. Thanks to The Sopranos’ and Kanye West’s appropriation of “Don’t’ Stop Believin’,” Journey are no longer just a semiwussy relic but a semivital chunk of Americana. And thanks to the wealth of power-pop delights on their first three classic albums (my faves: “Southern Girls,” “Come On Come On,” and, of course, “Surrender”), Cheap Trick are eternally awesome. The Exploding High Fives, the Color Bars
(Easy Street West Seattle) I first learned about the Color Bars when I inadvertently entered their name into our listings as “the Color Bats.” Someone noticed immediately after publication and a retraction was printed. Fortunately, though, this incident was tantamount to what my gay college photography teacher called “a happy accident.” Because, sounding like their named influences—the Kinks, the Flaming Lips, and (the less-annoying aspects of) bands like Of Montreal—the Color Bars have become a pleasant antidote to a summer plagued with sweating the small stuff like misspellings, parking tickets, occasionally spilling coffee on my keyboard. That first mistake made the rest of them seem not so bad. GRANT BRISSEY

Listen to “Pretty Krinkled” by the Color Bars:

You can always find all the rest of the night’s events in our searchable, comprehensive music listings.

The Kills and The Raconteurs will be playing at the (soon to be renamed?) WaMu Theater too. No excuses now for those who missed Jack, Brendan, and the Greenhornes' rhythm section earlier this year at Neumos.
