Earth were really painfully boring. Not my cup of tea...at all. And not the right fit for that show.

Nick Cave on the other hand...WHOO! It was fantastic.

I agree, Earth was just ok. The crowd, as well, was full of the most stiff, jack-assed idiots. People pushed up front to stand with their arms crossed, glaring if anyone dared to move an inch in their space while dancing. I also saw a fist-fight between two 50-something yoga-mom types. I am pretty sure that one had her arm in the other's bubble, and she got pissed. I was pissed just standing in the audience, and was sure that the band could pick up on the lame energy.
Nick Cave rocked his ass off, and people just stood there staring like they had never heard seen such rock-star antics in their life and did not respond at all.

Totally agree about Earth! Who had the bright idea of making them the opening act? I'm sure they're great as a stand alone band, but sticking them before Nick Cave made no sense and their set almost put me to sleep.

Have to agree about the crowd too-I'm not much of an arm waver myself(since I'm short I'm usually spending too much time trying to peer over someone's shoulders)but I was surprised at how much less excited people were than I expected them to be. I guess it's the risk you run when annoying hipsters begin to outnumber normal concertgoers in your city, but still.

But Nick--oh how he made up for the rest of the shortcomings. He rocked my world last night and I expect he'll do the same tonight.

Boring opening band that failed to get the crowd excited, older crowd (there didn't appear to be anyone under 21 at the first show), tons of security, metal gates dividing up the floor that seemed remarkably like the gates used to heard cattle and security checkpoints at every door don't really make for a fun dance-worthy environment. Nick Cave brought on the energy and a great show despite all that.
