uh...is it awful cause it sounds like "what IF GnR had not split and become another contemporary pop metal band"...like they um, were in the '80s? THIS track is exactly what I expected from Axl and the GnRs...not that I really care. Is whats his name tragically aping Iggy (in that video at least) via the "super poop group" Velvet Revolver better than this then? And wasn't THIS CRAP what indie rock rendered benign in 1991 as it succeeded in gutting pop metal's relevance? If so, why is there any hope of "genius" from Axl and the GnRs?

Yes!
Mass hypnosis of some sort has conviced a generation that "Appetite For Destruction" is some kind of masterpiece. Thus when they hear how horrible the new stuff is, their jaws just drop in collective disbelief.

Listen up peoples: this shit is just as good as all of G'n'R's other shit. Which is to say, not so good. Axl's voice is just plain terrible, and always has been. The only semi-decent songwriter in the band is long gone (Izzy), and Slash was never any second coming of Hendrix. Hell! Buckethead is more talented than Slash. And how did the Replacements guy end up with these losers???????? It truely boggles the mind.

The emperor has no clothes indeed...

@5. No, no, no.

"Appetite" is genius. I don't really have any love for anything else GnR ever did (maybe a little...), but "Appetite" is clearly a perfect record.

And this new song is crap. Like Marilyn Manson without the interesting creepiness.

Too bad. But, expected, at this point.
