Was anyone else here tired of this act about five seconds in to her first youtube video?
Yes.
I liked her better when she was just the sweater lady.
@1
this act was never fresh to begin with. the whole tracy + plastics, leslie and the ly's, anna oxygen et. al thing is like just bad art school wankery. it would be different if it were actually smart or the music were good, but it's not.
i know the converted will attack, but i kind of feel the same way about monotonix. it's cool that they jump around and crowd surf and moon people and shit (i guess), but i've heard their tracks, and they blow. i'm probably in the minority, but maybe they should spend more time writing killer tracks and THEN working on an outrageous live show, imho.
@4, I for one totally agree with you about Monotonix. I like to suggest Les Savy Fav as an example of a band with killer songs and wacky antics.
And Tracy + the Plastics at least had a better conceptual gag than just being aesthetically repellent.
in the future, national tour booking will be based on how many times an artist has appeared on a vh1 to talk about the internet. by the year 2015, that guy who dresses up like tron will pretty much be the new rolling stones.
So sick of this sort of insincere bullshit like Leslie And The Lys. This stuff was fishy from gate.
Totally agree with the statment about LeSavy Fav also.
slog comments are always so whiny.
I just want to say that the show was great. I don't care if it's been done before.--pretty much everything is a regurgitation of something else.
She put on a fun show, was actually pleasant to the audience, and did it for a good cause. I have no complaints.
I was skeptical, too. But Leslie puts on a great show and is super nice. She's also not claiming to be anything original. You know who is original and totally interesting, dude bands w/ dudes in tiny shorts.
les savy fav wrote some killer songs? which ones? the first song on Go Forth is pretty alright. everything else is kinda dull, in my opinion. i mean, i generally like shirtless fat dudes with beards, but the whole bear thing doesn't really translate onto record. Fucked Up, take note...
i'll take monotonix big riffs any day of the week.
the Ultimate Warrior from 1986 just called and needs his flair back
Holy shit, I agree with "bobcat" on something.
for an unsigned performer like her, you sure are taking a lot of your valuable time to discuss her. sounds like she's doing something right. it may not be my thing either... but i'd rather go check out one of her shows than watch anything thats been on SNL in the past 10 years.
Holy screaming gimmick.
