Leanne's Winning Runway Song?

Watching the show last night, my guess was maybe something by YACHT, what with the Portland thing and the stuttering acoustic guitar edits, but it turns out that Project Runway winner Leanne's runway song was made by her equally hipster dorky bf, Nathan W. McKee. It's called "Cookie Breath," and you can hear an edit of it here.

Miss! Rap! Supreme!

Is anyone else lightly obsessed with Ego Trip's Miss Rap Supreme, the MC Serch-hosted reality show on VH1?

And if so, does anyone else have the since-dismissed Khia's stupid battle rap—hinging on the repeated phrase "You better RESPECT! ME!"—stuck in their head 22 hours a day?

In other news, have you listened to Third Bass's The Cactus Album lately? It's delightful!

Because You're Not Doing Anything Important Anyway...

Check out this blog's list of 10 great moments of Punk Rock on TV, including Fear's SNL performance (featuring a very young Ian Mackaye), the Sex Pistols on The Today Show, the Ramones on The Simpsons, and members of the New York hardcore scene appearing as guests on Donahue circa 1986 ("I dunno how some dude in a $300 dollar suit can know what hardcore is about when it comes from your heart."). It comes with clips of everything too, so you can waste a good half an hour watching history.

Not mentioned, the Cramps on 90210 (they played a Halloween party at the Peach Pit, sadly I couldn't find video...), and the many GG Allin talk-show appearances. For example, here he is on Springer, when Springer was still trying to have class.

The phrase "I'm good" (I just watched someone on an insurance commercial offer a dirty old futon to his friend, who in turn replied, "I'm good") is marvelous: it's so positive-sounding, so affirmative, so happy and accepting, and yet the only thing it ever means is "no."

He Picked Ambre, He Picked Ambre! Thank the Fucking Lord Daisy Didn't Win!

For the three other readers of Line Out who give a shit about Rock of Love (I can't turn away from VH1's reality clusterfucks):

Aren't you so fucking happy that Daisy didn't win!?

Me too!

Ambre's a whole different kind of annoying, but at least she's not Daisy. Shudder. I can't stand Daisy.

The point of this post though, is to point out that Bret Michaels indeed does NOT wear a wig, like I had assumed all season. In a recent interview with the AP:

AP: What are you hiding under that bandanna?

Michaels: My hair is combined of my hair and the finest extensions Europe has to offer. I do the show without it on all the time and they wont film me. They are like, "Put your bandanna back on. It is your image." It is my signature thing.

MTV's Rock the Cradle is a Bigger Trainwreck Than American Idol

MTV's newest competitive reality show is basically the same thing as American Idol--some young singer wannabes perform every week for a panel of judges, the singer with the highest score wins immunity, America votes for their favorites of the remaining acts, the kid with the lowest score gets booted, and in the end the "best" performer gets a major label record deal.

But it's even better than American Idol, and here's why: These performers are not just some random people off the street thinking they can sing better than anyone in their town, these are the kids of famous musicians and singers.

Dee Snyder's kid is on it (with more make-up than his dad), Olivia Newton-John's puffy lipped daughter is on it (and she wants so bad to be Amy Winehouse), MC Hammer's daughter is one it (and she's not awful, actually), Al B-Sure's kid is on it... And none of them can really sing, yet they perform for a live audience, their famous parents, and four judges including Belinda Carslile and Larry Rudolf (yeah, Britney Spear's ex-manager). They get scored on a scale of 1-10; Larry is the Simon of the bunch, Belinda is the more-coherent Paula. The other two judges are people I've never heard off--one's a stylist and one's a choreographer. Or something.

It premiered last Thursday on MTV, and I've watched it in re-runs twice since. I can't not watch it when it's on. The first night's assignment was to sing a song that reminded them of their parents. When Bobby Brown's kid, Landon Brown, sang Seal's "Crazy" (fitting), he got some low scores (7.5, 5.0, 7.5, 6.5). His performance was flat, boring, the usual problems that plague amateurs. He played to the audience more than he sang the song. Rudolph said he had a problem with the song's runs and pitch, the choreographer dude said some stuff about how he has big shoes to fill and he performance is key. But the "Ouch" moment came when the show's host (a low-rent Ryan Seacrest) asked Daddy what he thought.

"I accept what they say," he said.

"You liked his performance?" asked the host.

"I love him."

Zing.

You can watch the full episode at MTV.com. Do it. Please do it.

The Who Are Gonna Get Rock Honored

Says AP:

NEW YORK - VH1 holds The Who in such high regard that the rock group is the only act being honored at its upcoming Rock Honors.

Now in its third year, the Rock Honors typically celebrate a handful of momentous rock groups and artists: previous honorees have included ZZ Top, Genesis, Kiss and Queen.

But this year, only the Who will be celebrated during the two-hour broadcast, to be taped July 12 in Los Angeles and aired on the network July 17. The group, which now consists surviving members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, is due to perform along with other acts who will pay tribute to the legendary band.

Rock Honors, by the way, is responsible for this:

That dude from Nickelback bugs me.

Traditionally, bands come in and play songs by the artist being honored. Who do you think should cover what song? I wouldn't mind seeing Arcade Fire take a stab at "Baba O'Riley."

The Grammys Are On Sunday--I'm Watching So You Don't Have To!

8 pm, channel 7. I'm going to be Liveblogging the Grammy's. Because I'm a glutton for punishment, but I'm also really curious to see what goes down (will Michael Jackson be there?).

The full list of nominations is here.

I'm going to scream if Amy Winehouse wins anything and be shocked if Justice wins anything (only because they're up against Justin Timberlake in "Best Dance Recording" and LCD Soundsytem in "Best Dance Album").

Who do you think is winning what? Or, do you even care who wins what? Also, how did "Hey There Delilah" get nominated for anything??

These questions will be answered Sunday night. So if you find yourself watching the Grammy's, log on to Line Out and join me while I throw fits/celebrate, gawk at the live performances, and make fun of people's outfits.
