Holy Shit!

Posted by Eric Grandy on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 1:02 PM

Via Tiny Lucky Genius aka the Unicorn's Tear:

It's not 1993, and no you aren't dreaming Aaron Cometbus and Blake Schwarzenbach have a band. Thorns of Life, and they are playing house shows in Brooklyn.

Geek out.

Holy Shit! This totally makes up for this summer's Jawbreaker reunion rumors that were supposedly legit but ended up being a load of crap.

According to Jet Blue, I can get to Brooklyn for under $200... merry christmas to me!

I saw aaron cometbus play drums for some band he was in back in '95, in a Bellingham basement, opening for other "nobodys." That's how cool *I* am. : )

That band he played in back in '95 also featured Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, they were Pinhead Gunpowder. Not exactly nobodys even then, they played the Jalepeno house in the U-District... it was packed and Courtney Love and her whole Hole entourage showed up. Aaron of course was cool and kinda shy, I bought a copy of Cometbus from him in the kitchen before the band's set.

Hey- the Jalepeno house! Forgot about that place.

How bout this Dan- My first band was allowed to open for Jawbreaker and Strawman (with Aaron Cometbus on drums for that tour) in Eugene in 1994. I was shitting myself. Jawbreaker and Crimpshrine were pretty much it for me at the time. After the show my girlfriend and I were interviewing Blake for our 'zine when the infamous "piss incident" occurred.

Very curious to hear what this new band sounds like, tho I fear it being some nostalgic rehashing of the past rather than anything particularly inspired or relevant. Hope they prove me wrong.
