Oh, Another Thing...

Posted by Eric Grandy on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 1:39 PM

I forgot to mention that last night at Nectar, Copy was drinking a beer onstage with impunity! As if he were still in enlightened Portland or some shit! And by some miracle, nobody died, nothing caught on fire, etc. We got lucky last night, but how many close calls like this can we afford? Can't the WSLCB please keep us safe from the scourge of onstage drinking?

Mark my words, onstage drinking will lead to greater social ills, such as premarital petting and unrestrained Lindy-hopping.

On a sort of but not really related note: The guitarist in Drive-By Truckers started smoking a cigarette during last Thursday's show. It was so weird! I didn't realize how long it had been since I saw a guitarist play and smoke at the same time, when it used to be such a common sight...

Well, if nothing else, here's hoping this post alerts the WSLCB to the situation at Nectar so they can send some folks over to start regulatin'! Good catch, EG.

Levi, I'm sure the WSLCB is already watching Nectar (and Neumos, Chop Suey, et al). It's a stupid regulation that ought to be changed, but it's not my job to keep secret what happens at public events in the Seattle music scene. On the contrary, it's my job to report them.

I was at Nectar on Sunday night and I remember the first two bands (Nodzzz and Vivian Girls) both complaining about not being able to drink on stage, so I think Nectar actually does enforce that rule (however legit it is or isn't).

Look, the only reason they can drink onstage in Portland is because they're not allowed to pump their own gas. Comprende?

Did all clubs start enforcing this regulation, or just Nectar? Our show there last month was the first time in our 5 year history as a band that we weren't allowed to bring drinks onstage. It was the longest 45 minute set in our history.

@7 I've seen bands complain about it at a number of clubs--Showbox, El Corazon, Neumo's... It's not just Nectar.

Don't believe Megan. Nectar has little choads when it comes to drinking.
