Tonight at the Comet

Holy crap the Comet has a good lineup tonight. I'd argue it's one of the best rock bills of the year, and it's all in the name of birthday girl Carly Henry. First up is Sandrider, who I haven’t heard yet, but it’s the new project from Akimbo drummer Nat Damm and former Akimbo guitarist Jared Burke Elington Akimbo bassist Jon Weisnewski on guitar. Considering everything these two have ever done together has been awesome, I’m banking that they’re probably not going to screw up that streak with their new band. Next is Portland’s Black Elk, who are one of the raddest, heaviest, maddest, nakedest bands in the Northwest. I was super excited to hear them getting air time on Audioasis last week. This band rules, and more people should be aware of that. Third are Bellingham’s prodigal sons, Black Eyes and Neckties, who are always a whirling dervish of energy and destruction. Seriously, I’ve been watching this band for years now and I’ve never seen them give less than 110% on stage. They may start their show covered in fake blood, but chances are they’ve drawn the real stuff by the end of their set. Capping it all off is the wall of sonic force that is Helms Alee. They sound perfect live. Their record, Night Terror, is one of - if not the best - releases out of the Northwest this year. It’s Friday! Rock and roll! Get stoked!

Ohh . . . I thought, based on the poster, that this show featured Helms Black Eyes, Alee Neckties, and Black Elk Sandrider. Thank you for the clarification.

Actually, Sandrider is Nat Damm and Jon Weisnewski from Akimbo (here on guitar instead of bass), and the bass player from the Ruby Doe.

I swear, no one does their research around here (grumble grumble)....

#4 - Seriously! I've seen them probably 10-12 times now, and Helms Alee are truly one of the best bands to come from this city in a LONG time.
