#16: "Wonderful Christmas Time" - Paul McCartney

Posted by Megan Seling on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 11:00 AM

This is, quite possibly, the most annoying Christmas song ever. I don't think anyone on the planet likes it except for me. Paul McCartney probably doesn't even like it. The only song more annoying than this one (and also one that I shamelessly listen to come every December) is Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

I still contend that "Jingle Bell Rock" is more annoying. That song says the word "jingle" way too much.

@3 Ack! So I did. Thanks for catching that! Fixed it. And now let's watch it together. And sing, and dance, and tune out the naysayers.

(@2 You make a compelling argument... but I think this one is slightly more annoying. If only because it's Paul McCartney and I expected so much more from him. Even circa 1978.)

I'm one of the few who love this song.

I hear it and it does remind me that it is Christmastime and to simply have a wonderful one.

It might not sound like YOUR Christmas, but it sure sounds like mine.

The song that I never think sounds like Christmas is Elton John's "Step Into Christmas."

this song is fire, fuck that!

i loved when De La Soul sampled it/bit it for
"Simply Havin".

i was @ pacific place a couple years back and they had some like lasers or some shit, and fake snow falling, and they were playing this, it was AWESOME

I too share the love for this ditty. Brings back fond memories of my sister and I dancing around the house circa 1979 or so. Plus the strange yowl about 3/4th of the way though....what is that about?

I can't believe all of you like this song! Where have you been all my life!? We should have a gang. Or at the very least, a dance crew. And we can perform a synchronized dance to this song at Westlake Center in front of the tree every Christmas Eve.

Minor (at best) Paul. But take that with a truck full of salt: I think 99.9% of all xmas music should be deleted forever.

Haven't heard theirs, but on principle, probably. (Roy Wood still rules, though.)

I had to chime in a little late. I LOVE this song. I was just rockin' it the other day marveling at it's awesomeness. The keyboard sound is perfect and totally original. And something about the recording is a little bit sloppy and immediate sounding, unlike a lot of McCartney. It sounds contemporary and indie. I'm gonna hit play again.

I think I have to knock some sense back into this thread: This is a terrible song. That is all.
