All ’ail Children’s Hospital

Children’s Hospital, making the scene.

Swathed in mystery, Children’s Hospital claim to be from Lebanon and describe their music as “Industrial/Bluegrass/Disco House” that sounds like “333 + 222.” (Freakin’ bandwagon-jumpers.)

But a tip over the weekend from a well-connected local musical legend hipped us to Children’s Hospital’s deal: They’re based in Seattle and feature a member of at least two Sub Pop groups that didn’t appear on any year-end lists in UK music mags in 2008.

With me and Children’s Hospital, it was love at first hear. Their self-titled album is a marvelously mystifying collection of experimental rock that chills through subtle distortion, eerie atmospheres, and woozy tempos. There are moments that will upset the equilibrium of your pets and cause you to flash back to Eraserhead’s more disturbing sound design. A+, any way you frame it!

Where might one find said s/t album, seeing as how, to further add to their mystery, they have an impossible name to search on ye olde interwebbes... 'Eyes Above Me' is currently stretching my brain into silly putty, in stereo.
