Mad Rad Banned From the Roxy Showbox and Neumos?

From 206 Proof:

Mad Rad banned from Showbox & Neumos?

So I got a twitter message from a reliable source, but wanted to see if anybody else knew what actually took place. I heard they got into a fight and as a result are no longer performing with Blue Scholars/Common Market?

Ummm...tattoo a tear for Charles Mudede & his wave theory.

Update: More gossip, from a reliable source of my own:

I was wondering when you were going to post something about that…I seriously thought that it would be all over the blogs come Monday. Apparently over the weekend they got into a fight that ended up involving security and eventually cops (some people have told me that they were “fighting cops” but I find that hard to believe). At least a couple of the dudes spent a few nights in jail.

We had a show with them at the Green Room in a few weeks that got cancelled at a result and I have heard that they have been more of less blacklisted.

Some of the above is second-hand/speculation, mind you.

Calls are out to Neumos, the Showbox, and Mad Rad right now...

Also, love them or hate them, Mad Rad have always struck me as a sharp and ambitious crew—but what kind of sharp, ambitious rap crew picks a fight in a club at this particular moment in Seattle?

Update: Neumos booker Steven Severin has confirmed that Mad Rad "are banned from playing Neumos because of an incident that happened this weekend."

are they really a rap crew, though? they always struck me more as a cornish-educated theater troupe performing the sort of music that the kids are into these days. those dudes are gloryhounds, this story doesn't surprise me at all.

#1, apparently you cared enough to come running here to be comment number one.

Fighting with bouncers is like bringing a WWII-era musket loaded with blanks to the door when the police come knocking.

Not smart kids.

Anyone who gets into a fight with bouncers and/or cops deserves whatever they get. I mean, if you are really that stupid, society would be much better off with you in jail. You see what cocaine does to skinny pussies who think that they can rap? @7 right the fuck on! Let's start a petition to get them to just stop.

#8,

Want them to go away? Stop talking about them. Don't go to their shows.

You are feeding the matrix brah.

Start a petition? Are you high?

when some band with a little hype gets their asses kicked by club security and cops for being douches, gets banned from the best clubs in town, and even the paper that writes hypes them ignores the story for 4 days, it's pretty sad and pathetic.

wow... you haters are real cool. Dont you think people get in to squabbles in every setting and music genre? Look at celebrities, people still love em, but they dumb stuff all the time. No press is bad press. even though it wasnt planned, if it were it was a smart move anyways. They have built such a big fan base and rep by never doing anything with all the hardcore seattle hip hop heads, and all the big venues. hell, theyve done a great job.

and as far as their music, are you guys morons... im not saying you cant have your own opinion, but listen to their beats, listen to the production, its way more innovative and creative than the majority of these artists out here in seattle. They are doing something new, and i bet if you asked people in the music business they would say the people that take these steps towards something different and progressive, are the ones who end up doing it big. kids now a days dont wanna listen to music that sounds like it was made in '93 just cause its cool cause its "underground."

seattle needs to stop thinking its too prestigious for something weird or new. take pride in people from your own city that are actually doing something unique.

you guys are all such lame, unappreciative, ignorant, childish, morons. Do you really think this is really going to affect their career in a bad way? Have they ever really screwed around with those venues before? Does this honestly actually affect them? I guarantee that not one of them actually cares about this incident. What doesnt kill them... makes them... RADDER.

The bottom line is that they assaulted a security guard at Neumos/Moe Bar and attempted assault on a Seattle police officer. I'm not sure how anyone else feels about that but if someone came to my place of business and attacked me, I wouldn't take it lightly.

You can take that from someone to whom this has happened before. I'm not a security guard, nor do I appear tough and threatening to the average person. I'm just a girl trying to do her job.

lame. banned for a good old fashioned fight?
let's not confuse apples and oranges. assault?
im not buying it.
i think the only thing mad rad is guilty of is being irrevrent.

i cant help but admire a band that's not just stopping through kissing everyone's asses on a tour their hoping wont be their last.
and then there's the fact that they sound frickin incredible. if it comes to it, ill pay to see them play a laundry mat; at least i wont be paying some self important bouncer's minimum wage.

That group or band is terrible. I saw them open for Head like a Kite at Neumos... bleh. Also, the Showbox sucks! Who do they think they are using Ticketmaster!? Cripes.

terrible as in encroyable teribble!
get yo facts straight, nowone is bothering to talk about the showbox.
that's for things that have already been pressed through the factory
or vetted, you know like hillary was saying this summer, nowone cares.
we are all talking about neumos, you know the stop on the way to the factory...

basically if a club is running a tight game and a bouncer is doing their job things should never get the chance to escalate to the place where cops need be called, especially on a performer. its just not professional. and for the last stop on the way to the factory thats just irresponsible.
if a performer seems off the wall and it doesnt get taken care of then it seems like someone tried to give them enough rope to hang themselves.
you got to control the beast, and make money off the beauty, isnt that the whole music club point?

You wanna front what?
Jump up and get bucked
If you're feeling lucky duck
Then press your luck
I snatch fake gangsta MC's and make em faggot flambe
Your nine spray my mind spray
Malignant mist steadily pumps the funk
The results you're a gang stuffed in a car trunk
You couldn't come to the jungles of the East poppin that game
You won't survive get live catchin wreck is our thing
I don't gang bang or shoot out bang bang
The relentless lyrics the only dope I slang
I'm a true master you can check my credentials
Cuz I choose to use my infinite potentials
Got a freaky, freaky, freaky-freaky flow
Control the mic like fidel castro locked cuba
So deep that you can scuba dive/my jive
Origin is unknown like the Jubas
I've accumulated honies all across the map
Cuz I'd rather bust a nut then bust a cap in
Ya back in fact my rap snaps ya sacroilliac
I'm the mack so i don't need to tote a Mac
My attack is purely mental and its nature's not hate
It's meant to wake ya up out of ya brainwashed state
Stagnate nonsense but if you persist
You'll get ya snotbox bust you press up on this
I flip hoes dip none of the real niggas slip
You don't know enough math to count the mics that I ripped
Keep the Dirty Rotten Scoundrel as his verbal weapons spit

I am worried that when my band starts playing bigger venues and god forbid we have to kick some ass we are going to have douche bags waiting to say you suck, fuck your music, and call people who stand up for us idiots. This is why the Seattle music scene is so stupid sometimes. The scene is ran by people who can't play a lick to save there fucking lives picking and choosing who they are will to give a shot. Luckily my band gets shows, but this is scary if this it what happens when you get somewhat big in our city and fuck up. Grow up Seattle* I am fucking tired of this petty shit!
p.s I know my grammar is probably wrong and shitty, but who gives a fuck?

Headphonesonly sounds like a member of this bammer squad, concerned about his grammar and shit. The reason Seattle has no scene is because nobody can bring it hard, they can only bring it "glamorous". Step up the realness if you want local support you pussies because underage white kids don't make you they break you (unless you're miley cyrus).

i saw them in portland. it actually made me feel really uncomfortable. anyone with half a brain could write those songs. when you take that half a brain and mix it with too much coke, a confused and fairweather appreciation for hip hop and electronic music, terrible haircuts, and a dick up the ass you get mad rad. go back to your day jobs at american eagle or whatever the fuck and stop making me want to puke at shows. just in case you do wind up seeing them live, make sure to watch how into their own music they get...and then right at that moment when all four of them are twizzing it's fun to imagine them getting fucked in the ass by ghosts.

Im sure that all of you out here in blogland make really great music. Im sure its better than Peter "P-Smoov" Robinsons awesome production skills. Im sure that all of you can probably bring better rhymes to the table than Terry and Buffalo Madonna. So wheres your fucking record at? Whens the last time you were important enough for some guy(me)in arkansas to know about you? Hmmmm....Thats why you all waste your time blogging. Fuck all of you!
