Not sure what happened at the Showbox or Neumos, but earlier that Saturday night Mad Rad were at a hiphop dinner party hosted by the photographer Chase Jarvis and underground restaurateur Michael Hebberoy. A big chunk of local hiphop was at this dinner—Jake One, Cancer Rising, The Saturday Knights, Mr Hill, J. Pinder, Fatal Lucciano, Blue Scholars, Common Market, The Physics. And each crew gave a small performance in a space bordered by three long (even gothic) tables. Only one performance was not chill and relaxed; only one performance was on the verge of collapsing the whole event into a night of chaos. No need to say who gave the performance, and it sure did not impress a lot of the more traditional headz in the house. Mad Rad's Buffalo Madonna (the man in the above picture) repeatedly slammed the dinner table into a cutlery-jingling beat. Everyone was waiting for the beat that would finally break the table and plunge us into a confusion of plates, forks, and flying food. Everyone was relieved when the performance was done—somehow the table survived the beating. Mad Rad are the bad boys of this town.

i have to agree with @1
these middle class, clueless, white boys are dangerous to no one but those with taste.

that's really disrespectful - being invited to a dinner then trying to break the table. I'm sure it's an antique. Seattles REAL hiphop scene is reeling from an unfortunate event if you can't remember, that shit like this is just flat out weak.

Nice pink arrow by the way.

charles, MR's performance was not as badly taken as you'd suggest. i was sitting across from jake, who said of their impromptu beat "i wish i could sample it". they actually impressed a few of the big dogs in town with their chutzpah, if not neccessarily with their lyrical ability.

they know their lane and theyre stickin to it.

What's next, "Mad Rad uses a salad fork to eat their dinner, the hip hop community is outraged!" I can't believe you're reporting on their behavior at the dinner table. Wooo, crazy, they pounded some beats on a table.

Wow, they smacked a table to the beat. Their showmanship knows no bounds. I must have been the only one snoozing through their last set.

i was there, it wasn't just pounding on the table, it was jumping on the table, splashing food on those sitting near, breaking all the dishes and glasses on the table and then falling to the floor.

Larry that may have been your side of the table. I spoke with at least 5 people whom were not only pissed off by their lack of respect for the host and his property, but annoyed with the blatant need to "shock" people in such a stupid way.

That night was my first impression of them and I hope I never have to see them perform again.

I heard that Mad Rad pound on each other's cutlery too; besides just on the dinner table. What I'm trying to convey is that their forks and knives and spoons bang together and shit: I mean that the polish each other's wangs. The metaphor I'm trying to explain here is that Mad Rad is more than willing to take turns sucking off the penes placed amongst them. That's what I heard anyway.

Mad Rad puts on a great show that you dont have to worry about getting shot at. And they can deliver their rhymes cleaner, on beat, and in tune more than most of the wanna-be rap crews out of Seattle. I didn't know The Stranger is now playing Seattle's Mother. "Dont play at the dinner table......" Is dancing on a table and allegedly breaking a few pieces of dinnerware that grand on the scale of the music scene? Gwar shoots liquids and all kinds of who knows what on the audience while imitating decapitations and murder, they still play at the Showbox..... Led Zeppelin tore up rooms at the Edgewater and still stayed there..... Have any of the groups from the night of the Chop Suey shooting been banned from anywhere????? What about all the "gang affiliations" that your writers are saying some of those groups have? A promoter even came out and said he was told to cancel the show..... I hope he lost his job.

well they must be doing something right if every time they cough or fart there are ten different people ready to criticize and reprimand them for doing it.

i always have fun at their shows and they always give 110%. the fact that they've made such a great and diverse record all by themselves is impressive. it's true that it probably wasn't a good idea to get into that scuffle, but those bouncers's jobs are to de-escalate situations like this instead of fueling them. from my personal experience with a bouncer at the moe bar i can deduce that it probably could have been handled better on their end. there are lots of venues in seattle. mad rad can bang on my table anytime.
