The New Muxtape

Posted by on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 12:26 PM

Muxtape has launched a preview of its new, copyright-respecting format today, and it's fairly disappointing. Says Muxtape:

Welcome to a preview of the new Muxtape, a minimalist platform for bands to promote their music and listeners to create mixes. We’ve invited 12 of our favorite artists to help test, and in the coming weeks we'll begin allowing bands to sign up themselves for free.

So, it's like Myspace and its playlist function (ie, you'll only be able to add to your mixes songs already uploaded by the artists) only without the other features that draw kids to the social networking site. Good luck with that.

Still, if you'd like to listen to three Reggie Watts songs, Muxtape has them.

Is it really that difficult to comprehend an aesthetically-pleasing network of bands with music, concert info, merch, and tickets all available in one place taking off?

I'm totally fine with a music networking site that's less eye-rapingly designed than myspace, but it's just not what Muxtape used to be.
