Coachella 2009 line-up announced

Posted by on Fri, Jan 30, 2009 at 8:06 AM

The complete line-up for Coachella 2009 was announced this morning. Sorry, kids, no Smiths reunion this year (although you do get Morrissey solo). Did you guess the correct "past-their-prime" artist in a headline slot? The answer: Sir Paul McCartney, who caps Friday night along with the Mozzer. The Killers and Amy Winehouse top Saturday's bill, with the Cure and My Bloody Valentine wrapping up the party on Sunday. Other names of note include Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, and Antony & The Johnsons. But the two acts I'd actually consider making the trip for? Leonard Cohen and Throbbing Gristle (alas, not together).

Full line-up (as of this morning, Jan. 30) after the jump. Anything on there that gets your pulse racing? Or makes your jaw drop in horror? Do tell...

yeah, the coachella line up sucks shit. totally not worth the $300 ticket plus travel. I'd rather just wait for Sasquatch, or save up for Bumbershoot this year.

this is actually a pretty solid lineup. the headliners are rarely the most interesting part of coachella, but the MBV + YYY on Sunday should be great.

I am very excited to see MBV. They skipped Seattle on their '08 US reunion tour. Okkervil River and The Kills will be fun. Leonard Cohen is of course a nice addition.

And yeah, I admit part of me thinks seeing McCartney in that environment would be kinda cool. I'll happily get baked and sing "Hey Jude" on a 70-degree night in the desert.

There's no way Bob Mould Band would actually morph into Husker Du, right? Right??

Watch for a late addition on Saturday...possibly Neil Young or David Bowie (or, hopefully, Daft Punk).

Throbbing Gristle? Really? All four of them? I would go for their show alone. Never got a chance to see TG play live.
I did however, get to see Peter Christopherson and Jhon Balance as COIL in NYC. The one US show COIL ever did.

Hercules and Love Affair sucks sooo much. The only thing worser than their music is their name.

Isn't The Cure also an acceptable guess?

uh, old news sloggy.

first it was going to be the (reunited) KINKS then they got McCartney instead. both waaaaaaaaaay past their prime.

as for my bloody valentine...they are rumoured to be playing at sasquatch this year according to my very good sources.

tg and cohen are the heavyweights here people. now lets get genesis and leo to do a duet!

Seriously? Throbbing Gristle? That shit is fucked up. If they come to Sasquatch I'm there.

Wow I never thought I'd see another festival lineup that DOESN'T include Death Cab For Cutie.

That's reason enough to go right there.

If I could float above the crowd in Wonder Woman's jet, to avoid both 1. the $300 ticket and 2. hang with WW, I'd totally go.

@ 3 - I just interviewed Bob the other day, and unless something radical happens: No. No Husker Du reunions in the cards right now - even though it's their 30th anniversary year.

I'm still ruminating on your suggestion of Leonard Cohen with Throbbing Gristle, Kurt.

Come on............ why comment if your going to say "meh?" I put it up there with "fag/homo" and "whatever" as the most ridiculous words people still use on a regular basis.

Anyways, PLEASE Cohen do a proper US tour......Cohen at Benaroya, I'd give my left pinky tow to make it happen.
