String-String-A-Ding-Ding

Posted by on Sun, Feb 8, 2009 at 5:23 PM

ATTENTION ANDREW BIRD FANS: check out this clip. It's a January 2007 episode from a puppet-infested children's TV series, Jack's Big Music Show, featuring Mr. Bird himself as the magical, hammer-dulcimer-repairing Dr. Stringz.

Bird wrote the Dr. Stringz theme song for his appearance on this TV show, but ever since has been using it in live performances as an intro to "Fake Palindromes":

And when he's not busy turning us to goo with his violin or pulling mandolins out of thin air, he moonlights as a columnist for the NY Times and uses words like "frothy" and "plumage."

Read it and swoon.

Forgive me, please. I have not heard of Andrew Bird. I have, however, heard of Jack's Big Music Show. I now have a crush on this man and can't get "string string a ding ding" out of my head.
