I have to say, I think this is a pretty good looking line-up, with lots of stuff I already know I'm excited to see (Animal Collective, M83, Of Montreal, TV on the Radio, Deadmau5, Girl Talk), lots of stuff I'm curious to see (Eryka Badu, NIN, Tobacco, The Gaslight Anthem), no doubt a few names that will pleasantly surprise, and still more to be announced. And, yeah, the headliners are alt-rock revival middlebrow, but aren't they always? Also, I am very, very excited for Yeah Yeah Yeahs—I know, their last album was kind of a snooze, but their new one is going to kill, trust.

Update: Post has been modified to include partial day-by-day schedule.

We got some stellar fucking acts - EITS, Gaslight, DeVotchKa, GT, TVotR, etc. - but the headliners leave A LOT to be desired. Ben fucking Harper AGAIN? Come on. Jane's Addiction? I thought Lollapalooza would have to suffer through that, not us.

I don't know that I'd call The Cure and REM "alt rock revival middlebrow". Seems to narrow both acts down in a way that NIN and Jane's Addiction deserve, but which they do not.

although I have seen 90% of the first 50 or so bands, I am still thrilled about the line-up. This makes Bumbershoot look more like a music festival and not focus on the bad art booths when there is no music to look forward too.

It's not bad....I was hoping that Peter, Bjorn and John would do a showbox show or something in Seattle, as I don't really trend towards multi-day festivals unless there's something truly unique there (Ride reunion next year? Please?). I'm still holding out hope that PB&J will add some west coast dates to their US tour leg.

I hope this doesn't hinder tour schedules for bands who would normally come through Seattle whom I'd want to see (RE: Doves), although I'm sure it will.

Didn't Trent Reznor say yesterday that the NIN/Jane's Addiction tour will be playing smaller venues? Huh?

Ewww God's Pottery? Well, if them getting exposure on Last Comic Standing did one good thing, it was get them out of New York. We all hate them. Go see Todd Barry. He's great.

Yeah #5. This actually kind of sucks. I(We) get screwed out of small venue stops by King Khan, Animal Collective, TV on the Radio, Of Montreal. Looks like I'll be heading to PDX or Vancouver.

@beef of montreal was at showbox sodo back in November. That was small.

This lineup looks awesome. Too bad standing around for hours in the heat with a bunch of hipsters is a ridiculously awful way to spend your time.

This looks pretty decent; I'm a bit sorry that I'll be out of town that weekend to miss "Santigold" et al, though I'll console myself by catching much of it at Coachella. BTW, can we make a collective decision to fight the power and drop the exclamation point from the festival name? It is just terrible.

Still not enough for me to spend my weekend standing in the blazing heat in the middle of a giant crowd. And the headliners are boring.

Also...which artists are playing which days?
Posted by j.lee on February 17, 2009 at 10:11 AM
13
no My Bloody Valentine or She & Him? Thermals? Hold Steady? Superchunk? Sonic Youth?

if any I would go for the first day to see The Decemberists, M. Ward, and Death Vessel. I'm not a fan of the headliners though.

I'm actually relieved that I can stay home and save my money this year

bands should not play outside. and they should not play during the daytime. not a bad line-up, but 90% of these acts have played in more ideal settings in Seattle in the past year.

no thanks.

i wish sasquatch would be a bit less KEXP and have some metal like slayer there. god knows they'd fill up the place! plus i'd love to see some metal heads out there with your sensitive "john in the morning" dweebs.

janes addiction? one word: embarrassing.

if you want to buy tickets to see Animal Collective at the Roseland in Portland instead, buy your tickets asap, they will be sold out by the end of the week.

Man, those headliners are TERRIBLE.

Good stuff further down, though.

But seriously, Jane's Addiction, Kings of Leon, Nine Inch Nails, Ben Harper & Relentless7, Yeah Yeah Yeahs? That is ALL ASS.

I have to agree with the people who are not going. As exciting as it is to see all these bands in one place, I went in '05 (Back when sasquatch was still relatively AFFORDABLE) and i was miserable. I got sunburn on my scalp where my hair was parted, it was like 95 degrees outside. I'm from alaska so i can't do it. While it is good exposure for bands you haven't seen, ideally you can just pick and choose the bands you want to see and see them when they come to seattle. Then you will actually get to see them play a full set, and won't have to drive for 3 hours and pay $30 to park.

I love nine inch nails, but that's really it. Sasquatch doesn't seem like their gig.

@ 23, did no one see Nine Inch Nails when they played Sasquatch several years back on that shorter day with TV on the Radio and Trail of the Dead..., it was glorious. I missed Sasquatch for the first time last year, and this year is more than inviting to me. While i'm not a huge fan of the headliners I've learned in the years past that I'm always surprised by how the setting and atmosphere can make them enjoyable for me. Case in point I hate Bjork...but god damn she was amazing 2 years ago at Sasquatch.

@22 I wouldn't totally knock Sasquatch because of your experience in '05. I've been to three Sasquatches and '08's was among the best festival experiences I've ever had (aside from the $11 beers of course). They've worked out the kinks and it was very easy to travel from stage to stage and there were virtually no lines for the bathrooms.

I'm not going this year because there are no must see's on the lineup in my opinion but it is a very good festival and worth the cost if you care to see to see the acts.

Haven't all the good bands on this lineup played bumbershoot or block party in the last year? And NIN and Harper have both played Sasquatch too right? I could stay in town and go to block party AND bumpershoot and have money left over for beer for the cost of this retread.

I agree with Brian Cook @ 18. If rock bands were meant to play outside, guitar amps would plug into trees.

I've already got my tickets to see The Avett Brothers in Portland.

Oh, and they're right about all the bands outside stuff. The air just gobbles the sound right up.

The headliners are uninteresting and many of the earlier bands, while interesting, will also be playing at sxsw. Not a lot of acts drawing me to this festival this year. The coachella lineup is far far more exciting. Too bad I hate the desert.

The top half of this line-up will be @ Bonnaroo & I will be too. It's just waaaay more fun than the hassles that come with a three day event/stay at the Gorge. No matter how beautiful it IS. No In/Out seals the deal for me. So lame.

More and more, this festival just seems like a get-together for KEXP's older listeners who don't go to shows the rest of the year like the rest of us. I've seen most of the good bands on that lineup within the past year in clubs, minus NIN and YYYs. So really, the only thing I'm upset about now is probably missing NIN's last tour.

what a pile of crap. now we have to stand 3 months of stranger hack editors sucking the tiny cocks of these bands.

I personally can't wait. This is one hell of a lineup. Coors tallboys and tons of your friends. Give me sun and no hail. Done deal.
