Casualties of King Cobra's Closing

Posted by on Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 2:55 PM

Of course, it's not just the club's own staff or patrons that will be hurt by King Cobra closing—outside promoters are finding themselves left in the lurch as well:

Seattle Venues,

My name is Gregory Baxley and I'm the Operations Director for Urban Bombshells in Seattle. On March 28th we were scheduled to have a huge launch party for our website at the King Cobra on Capitol Hill. I had put well over 100 hours of my time into organizing and promoting this event so far, plus spent over $1,000 on promotions including running full page ads and printing 5,000 flyers/posters within the past couple weeks. I just found out (by word of a blog, then official confirmation after I made a phone call) that the King Cobra is closing its doors this week. This puts me in a terrible positions, as staff, models, sponsors, fans, performers and business partners were depending on both me and this party. I have a lot of people flying in specifically for this event from the East Coast. This was to be a free event open to the public, and we were expecting a maximum capacity crowd. The party is a celebration of the official launch of our website next month, an online community based around pin-up photography, with music news, events, video, fashion, forums, blogs and much more. In the past six months we've gained attention nationally and now have 100 models nationwide. This party was to be the culmination of all of our hard work, and then this happens.

Now a mere month away, I'm forced to do damage control and seek another venue. I know that it's short notice and that all of Seattle's venues are probably booked. We don't have an option to change the date, due to flight reservations, scheduling, etc. So I'm inquiring whether any of you either has Saturday March 28th open, or whether you would give me the option to combine our party with whatever show you have going on. I'm flexible with times and details, as long as we keep the same date. I'm more than willing to assist in the organization in any way possible. I just need a place to make this party happen, so that I don't let all of our staff, sponsors and fans down. This is a horrible situation that I wish wasn't happening, but it is. Any options or suggestions that you can give would be much appreciated.

Please let me know if we book this show or make some arrangements. Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to forward you any press release or piece of information that you might need or want to see. Thanks so much.

Dear Greg,

You can thank Eric Grandy for talking shit about the venue in question EVEN BEFORE it opened and his neglect for even printing any shows since his mouth is firmly wrapped around the penises of Chop Suey and Neumos.

Dear Eric,

Clearly you have estimated your own power to make or break a club. Now that you know, why not accept gifts so that you can use your magical powers to make the riskiest of businesses succeed? It would pay more than editing the music section.

Thanks for aknowledging the people who have been hurt by this situation. I am the Gregory who actually sent out the above posted email. I don't blame anyone specifically. The fact is that it's a situation that sucks for everyone. The economy is in horrible shape and many businesses are failing. I'll be professional and make the best of this situation. The show must go on, and we will still be putting on our party! Stay tuned and I'll release details as soon as possible. If anyone would be kind enough to assist me in the organizatio or promotion of said party, it would be much appreciated. The bottom line is that Seattle lost a great venue, and the shit-talkers of Seattle are still as pretentious as ever.
