I agree with 1.
I thought from the beginning, to compete as a club on capitol hill the people running King Cobra needed to raise there taste levels. They started to get the picture the last couple weeks, but it was to little to late.

Everyone involved in that place argued that capitol hill needed some good ol' fashion rock n roll and king Cobra was the place! But the forgot to mention they were going to hire scary security (even when there's not a show) and cater to a very small percentage of the cap hill crowd. Every night i would go in there it was the same burn-out (heavy metal?!) crowd. SAD!

I would go out on a friday or sat, the Cha cha to packed, Moe bar to packed, Comet to packed, Grey to packed, then we'd stop by King Cobra and it was empty and sad. Oh and remember the close to naked girls dancing in behind the chain link fence?! WTF

the bar reminded me of the post-apocalyptic bar from Robocop 2, were the kind sold"Nuke"

I'm sorry when a local business fails, its bad for everyone, but you need to be smart enough to be able to adapt and change with the times to be successful.

Glad to see the Capitol Hill art scene out in force this past Saturday for Hoquiam and POWRFL Power. All 15 of you.

What makes or breaks these clubs is the fickleness of the hipsters that choose to frequent them. Moe Bar is awful, the layout is uncomfortable, and the people are snotty. Yet "ch ch changes" and her ugly friends are probably there every night.

I'm in The Altarboys, we're from Portland and play hardcore pop, you can check it here:

www.thealtarboys.com

maybe you'll like it, maybe not. If you like it let me know...if not 'member what yer momma taught ya.

A few comments on a few of the other bands: All Bets On Death are a rawk/punk band from up there. I like them a lot...think early Metallica and Zeke. Flexx Bronco are a R-A-W-K band from SF, their live show is super fun and they're rad guys. I don't know enough about the other bands to say anything specific but I'll bet I'll have fun Friday night. Remember, they hafta get rid of ALLLLL that booze and the staff will be pouring MAD stiff if you tip decent.

Late,
Jack

Jack, you're typing to emo ass shallow motherfuckers that hang out at the Cha-Cha. Ain't going to persuade anyone.

People in the real seattle music scene know how much you kick ass.

Thanks!

If "Bram Stroker" up there walked out his door after 10PM the last 2 years he'd know half of those bands easily. Public opinions-private lazinesses.

Yeah I really should support Seattle's mediocrity. We need more of that.

The only thing here supporting Seattle's mediocrity is you and you ilk running your mouths...as usual. For a guy who apparently reads (and re-reads) quite a bit, you sure seem clueless. (see also: lazy)

If YOU really want to support mediocrity in Seattle just keep breathing buddy...your taking up space nicely.

There's some good bands playing the last KC show, to be sure. The problem is THE SAME bands played King Cobra OVER and OVER and OVER again to the point of ridiculousness. I mean, Neon Nights kick ass ("Party Song" is the rowdiest, catchiest slice of bluesy-aggro-pop-metal I've heard in ages), but I don't need to see them every friggin' week!

That, plus Grandy's crapping all over 'em before they even opened, a seemingly never ending parade of booking agents, no bands ever playing that could sell the room out, rumors of questionable band paying practices, and other issues make me wonder how they stayed open as long as they did. Seriously - I can think of several bands that never played KC, yet played pretty much every other rock venue (both smaller and larger than KC) in town. Coincidence?

This isn't meant to be a slam at KC. I really liked the place, and I always had a great time there. But having been to a club or a million over the years, its been clear for a long time that KC was doomed. That's unfortunate, as I thought a place like KC seemingly originally set out to be was just what this city's rock scene needed. I'll miss it.

And speaking of mediocrity and PWRFL PWR, do people really listen to that whiny little pussy and think, "Wow! What a talent!"? Has the world gone completely insane?

I've seen/heard a few of these bands. They don't suck, not even close, nor do they all sound the same, but they also won't be selling out a space that size anytime soon. I love having places where smaller local bands can get shows on a regular basis, but those bands can't fill a bigger place. Look at the Blue Moon for example - great place for smaller bands because it's a smaller space; If you have a draw of 25 you can pack it. Not so at King Cobra.

We're all missing the point here:

Pain Cocktail played at 5:00 PM.

WHO KNEW SLATS WAS AWAKE AT 5:00 PM?!!?!!?!?

i am in one of those bands that played last night, and i actually agree with all the negative comments. king cobra fucking sucked; it was a scenester shit hole. one of my friend's bands who was on tour last summer played there and asked me "is this place for real?" couldnt agree more. and as far as someone saying "all those bands sound the same" - kinda right, a lot of them do. but there are a few in there that rock.

The music coverage in this rag has been shit since Jennifer Maerz left.

I am a former Kincora regular that stopped going to King Cobra. The biggest reason was the obnoxious security especially that amazon with the shitty attitude that made you feel like you were doing something wrong just by being there and who would throw away your drink when you went to smoke. I understand the good people behind the Cobra felt pressured into hiring security but I wish they had not hired jackbooters who obviously were looking to bust peoples skulls.

"the bar reminded me of the post-apocalyptic bar from Robocop 2, were the kind sold "Nuke""

Man, I would have been there every night if it felt like that a post-apocalyptic bar to me.

I agree the security seemed way overzealous at King Cobra, much like the old Croc or Showbox Sodo. I have to think they had purposely way too much security because they had to shake the image Sugar created with the shooting on the dancefloor. But I gotta wonder, is there any club where people actually like the security?

I have no doubt they felt they needed the security to shake the image of Sugar just as I have no doubt that they were probably forced into the hiring of security by the Seattle P.D. Durning the first weeks I noticed that most of the shit-heel Sugar types tended to come in and quickly turn around and walk out. I did en't see any behavior in King Cobra's latter days that would necessitate such a presence of force by security. Granted nobody really likes club security but I have been to plenty of clubs where security didn't behave like stormtroopers trying to remind you how tough they are and that includes The Croc in it's heyday. I guess I just prefer it when security is only visible when you need them and not giving you the stink-eye for socializing with your friends.

I was kicked out of there for stamping myself when I walked in because no one was manning the door.
Once I left there were 3 patrons left to drink out of their shitty ass plastic cups.
Not too smart.

The sound guy got so wasted he had his friend doing sound. And even though the out of town bands showed up after they were supposed to play, the show still was a fucking blast. The place was packed the last two days of its closing. The older sound guy, while slow, did a good job. The photos came out great. It was a wild party. I miss the place so much. RIP to Cobra and to all the shittalkers, you what...who cares. "Ya ain't shit but a shit talker"
