Great New(ish) Rock Band Alert

Posted by on Thu, Feb 26, 2009 at 4:40 PM

Fiasco. Spasmodic noise rock with tricky time signatures; somewhere between Hella and Don Caballero. Besides offering good advice, the track “I Figure It’s Better If We Do Something Ridiculous Than Nothing at All” even reminds me of speedy British spazz-jazz goons Big Flame.

Pitchfork has a vid of Fiasco’s thrillingly convoluted and prickly “Oh You Horny Monster” here. Impose.tv has a couple of interview/performance videos here. Fiasco’s album Native Canadians is out now on Impose.

Sadly, no Seattle dates are on the near horizon, but if you’re going to South by Southwest, you have six chances to see this Brooklyn-based trio.

(If you knew about these guys back in 2005, I congratulate you. Somehow they've eluded me until now.)

no, this is pretty nice. very fast and clean. unfortunately, the drum beat in the beginning of the song (maybe it would be the "verse?") reminds me way too much of that one Vampire Weekend song... god damn Vampire Weekend.

They're not even local.
Why are you telling me about this?
This isn't pitchfork dude.

No wonder so many good local bands hate this publication.

I dig it. It's like Storm and Stress doing pop. It's already stuck in my head.
