I Made Myself Sad

Posted by Jeff Kirby on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 9:20 PM

Tonight at work I was humming "The Sprout and the Bean" by Joanna Newsom. I was about halfway through the song when before I knew it, before I realized how or why I was doing it, I was humming "That's What You Get" by Paramore instead. No segue, no explanation, no warning.

You disappointed me tonight, brain.

No explanation?
Isn't this the song we were playing in Rock Band, with you on vocals, just yesterday?
There's your explanation.

Don't hide from who you are, Jeff Kirby.

This is reason enough to kill your brain, at least with copious amounts of alcohol.

This Paramore bullshit has got to stop!

@1 - Sure, that's an "explanation" of why it's in my consciousness... but it doesn't make the situation any less disappointing. It was like my brain was strolling through a serene landscape, then decided, "I wonder what the mall is like right now?"

Obviously my brain and my ego are at odds about Paramore, and I can't hide from that.

I do that all the time. Tend to think of them as internal mash-ups.
