Waxing at the Big Dig

Posted by on Sun, Mar 8, 2009 at 5:54 PM

Here’s what I picked up at the Big Dig [look for 'em after the cut] at Lo-Fi Performance Gallery last night (got there at 8 pm and only had an hour to search; this is called “a preemptive tactic to ensure thriftiness”). The lot cost me $34. Not bad.

So, what did you find?

Thought about stopping in, but got too distracted and busy with watching the Wild Orchid Children show next door at the Holy MT.

why was everybody talking about the mahavishnu orchestra at that place? i recall talking to big cheese dealer craig about a bootleg i have of them (and it cooks) but other peeps were chatting them up. and you got that gem!

i was selling and it was great! sold @1 his "shoes" lp...yay. lots of good stuff all over the place - great digs. i saw lots of people eyeing that peter green lp.

p.s. - i was told mahavishnu was greg ginn's biggest influence. hmmm.

I dunno—but whatever praise they threw Mahavishnu's way, it's totally deserved. The Inner Mounting Flame and Birds Of Fire are twin peaks of jazz rock that will likely never be surpassed.
