Mad Rad X Grynch @ Songs For Eating & Drinking

Posted by on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 11:22 PM

I'm gonna go ahead and predict Alan Lee Keyes's #1 pick for gangsta rap here:

"My Watermelon" by Mad Rad, live from Songs For Eating & Drinking.

Also clocking in @ #1..."Dollar Menu" by Grynch!

This dinner was a thrilling example of the kind of hiphop diversity that does not exist anymore, anywhere- especially in Seattle. The fact that the ground zero of the 3rd Wave could coexist with a hardcore 2nd Waver like the would-be "King Of Ballard"- well, it all kind of reminds me of gothic architecture. And dub. And Lolita.

I still cannot understand this fascination with Mad Rad. They have absolutely no musical or lyrical talent! Superficially, they are hands down the ugliest band in Seattle. Shit, only Kristen from BlushPhoto will be their whore.

I would be really fucking annoyed if I was invited to a dinner with a bunch of fellow music artists and some coked out hipster douche started banging his silverware on the fucking table, regardless if he thought he was "making a beat". Grow the fuck up, or at least lay off the fucking blow.

@2 is racist.

Music doesn't haven't anything to do with color, prick.

Mad Rad has talent. Just cause they're not all slick doesn't mean they don't rock. They kill with pure heart and soul (and pussy and drugs don't hurt). Sex drugs and rock'n'roll is NOW sex drugs and MadRad.

If you're looking for good looks, get yourself a playgirl.

@8

Definitely not in Mad Rad, but of all the shows I've been to, Mad Rad delivers the most fun and energetic act. Also, the women they attract to their shows makes me want to stop bringing my women (having a woman makes getting others harder for me).

As for the pussy and drugs reference I made, its directed at the subject matter of their music. Amazingly enough, pussy and drugs are about the only reasons I still enjoy living. Maybe I'm unique in that aspect, but I kinda think I'm not.

@4 is self-clowned.

But I was referring to Lar's post itself, not its subject so yeah.

Is their album called, 'Is It Coz I Iz White?'. What a fucking joke. And for the brain dead moron @7, there is nothing racist about calling out a group's 'shtick' bullshit. No one is saying that white rappers are inherently any less credible than black rappers, but when you purposely change the way you dress and the inflection of your voice ('alyight, yall, this track right haaarrr...') to reflect some kind of pseudo inner-city persona, you are being a douche. And you should be called out on it. Doing drugs doesn't give you street cred; it just makes you an idiot. Haven't we learned this lesson already? Shtick groups have a shelf life of about a year, tops. Let's get something with substance. Anyone (besides their own friends) remember the Lashes? I didn't think so.
