Gotta (Catholic) Block Party Rumor

Posted by on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 1:05 AM

A trusted source says that one possible headliner for this year's Capitol Hill Block Party will leave you thirstin' for more and rather ripped.

This would certainly be an improvement over last year, and I would actually brave the shitty crowds for this band.

Most overrated band ever! Useless, talentless noise machine.

Dave, what was your 'trusted source' (keep it general, if you like)? I might have just pissed my pants.

Yeah, you nailed it, #3... except for the Beatles, the Left Banke, the Zombies, Curtis Mayfield, Shuggie Otis, Nick Drake, Todd Rundgren, and 9 million other artists known to be handy with a melody. Pay more attention.

This would be fucking awesome, especially since the Halo Benders are already on board.

Oh, cool, I love the Halo Benders!

Seriously, though, it pains me how good this year's line-up is going to be. I wish I could gossip more. Jesus.

#4: My trusted source would kill me if I revealed his/her identity.

I think I just came.

OTHER NEWS:

So Grandy is apparently not interested in acknowledging my e-mail. That's fine. I'll share this here:

Bow + Arrow posted a bulletin stating they'll be playing Block Party this year.

"So you're saying it's a his/her".........that's ok, I guess I still believe you.

The other headliner is said to be that basiliscus that is known for its ability to walk on water, but you didn't hear it from me. Yow!

There are two diaries on SLOG linking this article. Will someone please delete one of them? Thanks.

You're getting our hopes up pretty damn high. I won't hold my breath, but that sure would be mind blowing. Truth is, as long as the headliners keep folks like @3 off the streets and locked in their room listening to Fleetwood Mac records, I'm happy.

Sonic Youth
Jesus Lizard
Halo Benders

I've also got it on good record that there is a Treepeople reunion in the works ...

Can anybody point me toward accurate information about this year's Block Party dates?
Posted by lola on March 24, 2009 at 12:17 PM

@16: Actually, the whole fest is just going to be Doug Martsch for two days straight.

i have an even better source that says it'll be the jonas brothers featuring hannah montana

Uh, I guess by "accurate" I meant "more reliable than an anonymous blog post." Thank you, though. Have either The Stranger or KEXP posted official dates? Because searches of both sites turn up nothing.

"Actually, the whole fest is just going to be Doug Martsch for two days straight."

Yeah, but the good part is he's going to be playing one long version of "Cortez The Killer" the entire time!

since we are tripping down memory lane...and grandy and the jr. league might like this - how's about shellac and/or big black. just sayin' since there seems to be some kinda 9t's thing with SY and JL and the halo benders. what? the halo benders? isn't this a bit much for calvin?

@26: hey guess what, Shellac and Arcwelder are playing Vera a month prior to the block party. Two shows even. wish fulfillment, etc.

@26: also Big Black is so 80s/new wave. And I'd be first in line to by the Grandy & The Jr. League album. Indietastic.

What, The Jonas Brothers, or whatever else passes for the current "flavor of the month" "most popular band - evah!" wasn't available?

Block party is getting too big for its britches. Seriously. The crowd is worse every year...we need less national acts.

Use to be fun...now I get out of the neighborhood for the weekend.

I've written about more bands working in more styles than just about any music journalist in this country over the last 26 years. If you want to meet, say, at Wall of Sound, I can break it down for you further, anonymous internet person. You know how to reach me.

Here's a novel idea - Maybe they could sell fewer tickets? And have smaller crowds so that there's actually a bit of room to move?

@13. I saw lead singer of said band speak at an art school down here in Portland earlier this evening and he seemed to think the same.
