Wavves, Crystal Stilts, Idle Times Help RainyDawg Celebrate 6th Birthday

Posted by Dave Segal on Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 4:26 PM

UW internet station RainyDawg Radio scores a serious coup with this show. Brooklyn's Crystal Stilts put the Jesus into Mary's Chain, stressing that seminal Scottish band's deft melodic touch over their noisier tendencies; Wavves is San Diego lo-fi noise dude Nathan Williams, a buzz act with a ton of buzziness in his prickly-sweet tunes; Seattle's Idle Times sounds like guitarist/vocalist Nikki Sudden post-Swell Maps and/or a bedroom-produced Marc Bolan—scrappy, alternately lethargic and coiled fuzz pop.

Show happens Fri. April 24 (7 pm) at North Husky Den located in the HUB on the University of Washington Campus.

UPDATE: AFCGT have been added to the bill.

Press release after the cut.

RainyDawg Radio and HUB Sound Bytes Present Crystal Stilts, Wavves, and Idle Times Friday, April 24 at 7PM.

The University of Washington's Campus Radio station RainyDawg Radio is celebrating its sixth birthday with a night of pop-infused underground noise. On Friday April 24th at 7PM Crystal Stilts, Wavves, and Idle Times will play a one-night-only show in the North Husky Den located in the HUB on the University of Washington Campus.

Crystal Stilts are an underground garage punk outfit hailing from New York City. Their debut self-titled EP "sounds both affected and effective at the same time... weirdly life-affirming and very fun" (Pitchfork). Their unique aestethic has given them the buzz of being arguably the hottest band coming out of New York City today.

Wavves is the relatively new lo-fi noise/punk project of Nathan Williams, a native of the San Diego. Touring with drummer Ryan Ulsh, Wavves delivers pop songs that are drowned in layers of noise and dissonance. "When the noise and the pop align just right—it's a blast" (Eric Grandy, The Stranger).

Idle Times is the project of Brian Idle, the Seattle native. Brian Idle self-records all his songs, giving them a genuine touch of impercetion. Idle Times has been garnering a good deal of press and quite a following. You can find Idle Times' most recent 7" on the notable record label Woodsist.

Tickets are $6 will a valid UW student ID available in the HUB ticket Office. General Admission tickets are available via Tickets West for $10. Show at 7PM.

Awesome news...too bad it's such a shitty venue. I saw Menomena there last year and the show was pretty much ruined by the stuffy room, awful acoustics, lack of stage, and hordes of freshmen.

Those are qualities that should make it the perfect venue for this show.
