Katherine Hepburn's Voice is such a terribly shitty gimmick of a band name that is going to be inseparable from the shittiness that is "Natalie Portman's Shaved Head." So I've avoided listening to them completely. Am I correct in assuming that they are just as musically pointless as their name suggests? Or should I suck it up and give them a listen?

I'm not a main person of their thing, but I kind of dig KHV. At the very least, they're a much better band than NPSH.

No nick, you are very incorrect.

I wouldn't avoid listening to a band because a band name... but eh.. maybe that is just me... and KHV is totally worth checking out.

I would avoid a band based on a name, because usually you're right (Audioslave? NPSH? No, thanks!). However, KHV isn't as awful as the name suggests. Mind you, they aren't great, and you can live a happy healthy life never hearing them, but they aren't as soul-crushingly annoying as NPSH.
I hear they are a lot better live, but can't verify.

I can see Nick's point, I guess. The name could sound pretty gimmicky, which is why we usually try to go by "KHV". But for the record, we didn't come up with the name anyhow; it was given to us by DW's wife, who is radical.

I was very underwhelmed by their performance at the high dive, and I had no previous expectations. I also find it funny that pics of KHV were posted on line out and the CD release show was for the Tea Cozies, which feature 3 incredibly talented ladies who also have good live chops (unlike KHV).

I second 11 - did someone have a brain tumor for breakfast? While I enjoyed KHV well enough, the Tea Cozies put on a kickass show (Tea Cozies = 3 girls + 1 guy). It was their CD release, the crowd was into it, there were both blatant and obscure Heathers references (the crowd sang rowdily along to Que Sera Sera, which tied in to their album title, Hot Probs)... Seriously, those girls, girls, girls can PLAY.

I was totally shocked that you did not mention the incredible show that the Tea Cozies put on Friday night at High Dive. It amazes me that you have not even reviewed their new CD "Hot Probs". This band is rockin'...you need to catch a live show. The energy is contagious. I agree the only thing lacking on Friday was a place to get to dancing to tunes like "Boys at the Metro", "The South Turned Him Sour", "Corner Store Girls"...I use to have lots of faith in the critics at The Stranger...not so much anymore.
