About Last Night's Decibel Festival Fundraiser

Posted by Eric Grandy on Thu, May 7, 2009 at 2:50 PM

Decibel Festival honcho Sean Horton reports that last night's Decibel Gala Fundraiser at the Triple Door failed to raise money for the fest (although it sounds like it was a fine show):

Special thanks to anyone that made it out last night and to those who have donated money over the past few days. Unfortunately that night's "fundraiser" did lose money (very low attendance).

Hopefully the low turnouts for events will change moving into the spring, but based on feedback I've been getting, people are either short on time and or money. To all of you out there struggling, trust me when I say "I know the feeling".

Regardless of whether the 2009 festival takes please, know I have the utmost respect and love for this community and the people that have dedicated countless hours to supporting the festival over the past 6 years.

Again, if you feel inclined to chip in, tax-deductible donations to Decibel can be made to its fiscal sponsor Shunpike (www.shunpike.org) at 3518 Fremont Ave N, #118, Seattle WA 98103, or via Paypal to iamnordicsoul@hotmail.com.

Yes. There was a variety of excellent ambient/soundtrack-y music with consistently beautiful visuals. The turnout was quite disappointing, though.

I'm thinking for a future fundraiser, Decibel needs to snag a really high-profile headliner who'd be willing to perform for a nominal fee (easy to say, hard to do, I know). Last night's lineup was great, but fairly obscure to casual electronic-music fans and the uninitiated.

The turnout was NOT disappointing for a $25/50 dollar AMBIENT showcase, local NW talent, billed and emphasized almost solely as a Decibel fundraiser on a Wednesday night the day after the Iron and Wine show at the Triple Door starting at 7 PM. It was exactly what you would expect.

A fundraiser that loses money = disappointing, no matter how you slice it.
