Your Alternative to Sasquatch: Rain Fest

Posted by on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 10:00 AM

Don't feel like driving across Washington State for hours to see bands like Animal Collective, the Gaslight Anthem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and dozens more?

Me neither.

That same weekend, May 22nd-24th, the Viaduct in Tacoma is hosting the annual festival Rain Fest. It's mostly hardcore, but there's some metal and pop punk and other stuff in there too. The big-name headliner for the weekend is Comeback Kid, but they have tons of locals on the list:

FRIDAY: Gone But Not Forgotten, Ill Intent, Killing The Dream, Lewd Acts, Poverty Bay Saints, Sixes, Vanguard, the Warriors, Wisdom In Chains

SATURDAY: Ceremony, Cold World, Comadre, Comeback Kid, Cool Runnings, Give Life, Hammer Bros, Hit The Bricks, Keep It Clear, Open Fire, Owen Hart, President Kennedy Is Assassinated, Pressure Point, Rebuilt, Slingshot, Sojourner, Streetwalkers, Whiskey Rebels

SUNDAY: 7 Generations, Broadway Calls, Crucified, Dangers, Final Fight, Graf Orlock, Grave Maker, Heart Eyes, Make Do And Mend, The Menzingers, More Than Heroes, Not Sorry, Power, Product Of Waste, Rotting Out, Sabertooth Zombie, Trash Talk

All the info you could possibly need is available at Rain Fest's MySpace.

Go Megan! You're totally pimping hardcore/punk shows now, sweet!

Wow, Megan. Did my negative comments about you and hardcore hit home this hard? I've seen Lineout mention the genre more in the last ten days than you have in two or three years.

Including that show review you did of This Is Hell/Gallows in which you ridiculed the TIH fans and hyped Gallows. Embarrassing.

@3 Ha! Yes. It has everything to do with you, Nick.

Actually, I've just been on a hardcore kick for the past couple weeks since seeing Trial again for the first time since 2005 and then going to Burning Fight. Been listening to old bands, talking about old shows with friends. It's been rad.

You can have all the credit if you want, though.

I'm most excited to see Cold World and Graf Orlock, but people need to make sure and check out Make Do and Mend - they're on that Hot Water Music tip. Good stuff.

@6 Thanks for the tip re: Make Do... listening to them now and digging it (I type that while wearing a HWM hoodie, so obvs it's my thing).

Wow, checked out 7 Generations after reading @5's comment and seeing a ton of people wearing their shirts at Burning Fight a couple weeks ago. So good. I wish I had heard of them earlier.
