The Alleged Gay Bashing at D-List Magazine's Anniversary Bash

Posted by on Wed, May 20, 2009 at 11:42 AM

Recall that celebrity-studded magazine anniversary party reviewed on Line Out recently? With Samantha Ronson? And these guys? And this:

Number of people involved in the fistfight outside around 1:40am: 3 throwing punches, 12 or so rubbernecking

Perhaps you saw this comment to that post:

What we need to talk about is the girl who was gay bashed outside at the end of the night. I think you had left right before Gina. But at the end of the night a guy sucker punched a dyke, knocked her out cold and continued to beat the crap out of her and kick her in the face.

Blood was everywhere and no one was defending her. All the big guys standing around that couldve stopped him and no one did. WTF SEATTLE?!

This girl has a fracture in her face and her eyes have been swollen fucking shut. Because of this douchebag who called her a dyke as he continued to beat her face in while she was already knocked out. May I mention that he was around 6'7" and she was about 5'5".

Believe you and me were going to get this guy on a hate crime.....

But thanks for the shout Gina about the zine. Appreciate it. And would love to talk to you more about this gay bashing maybe you can help spread the word?

Well, as Towerload reports today, Ronson has posted pictures of the alleged assault victim as well as a statement up on her twitter/myspace:

i wish it surprised me more to hear about people being attacked for things beyond their control. a person's skin colour, faith, sexual orientation, or nationality are not reasons for persecution- i would say that this is my personal belief- however, it shouldn't be up for discussion.

NO ONE should have to suffer any sort of attack, verbal or physical, for any reason. there are no excuses for violence- people say "well they're just ignorant or uneducated" - so what??? i don't know how to speak chinese, i haven't studied hinduism, i've never been to brazil, that doesn't mean that i feel that it's ok for me to hate what i don't understand, least of all resort to violence when challenged.

unfortunately people are killed, beaten and attacked daily for a number of ridiculously irrational reasons. it's frightening to me that when i hear a story about someone being beaten up i am not as shocked by it as I should be- purely due to the fact that these incidents, as horrifying as they may be, are not isolated.

it's 2009 people, why are we still fighting each other? the whole world is a damn mess and we're too busy hating to come together and change it. President Obama ran a campaign based on hope- not hope for any group of people in particular- hope for everyone. His message was embraced worldwide, so why can't we, here in the US, fight together instead of with one another? I'm not saying that everyone has to love everyone individually, i'm no hippie, but seriously people, no one should ever resort to violence. What if your sister, mother, brother or father were being pummeled for wearing a red sweater? would you stand by and do nothing? well, we are all someone's child, sibling, or friend! Open your eyes!

sorry to vent, but that picture above was taken after a girl was attacked at a party i dj'd in seattle, simply for being gay. it's disgusting.

sorry for rambling, but it makes me so sad that this sh*t happens today.

Update: Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on the police report ("the report says the woman tried to hit a bouncer") here.

Yeah, it seems weird - no one helped, no one called the cops? If anyone has more info on what happened, cool. But this is odd.

Thanks for the article, jseattle - that makes more sense now. More than meets the eye, apparently.

@5 you never know. Some people need a good ass kicking once in awhile. Just saying.

@ 7 rotten666: I *sincerely* hope you're kidding. If not, please indulge Line Out readers and elaborate why you think "some people need a good ass kicking once in awhile" is a good idea. If you're trying to win Troll Of The Year by either mocking or advocating gay-bashing, then you're truly subhuman.

Get a grip @8. Just playing devils advocate. Queers can be obnoxious assholes just like straight people. Not every punched homo automatically = gay bash.

@8 not all crime against any sort of minorities is a hate crime.

I'm not condoning any violence here either, and this seems more than likely in the vien of gay-bashing, but being hair trigger is one of the biggest speedbumps that minorities face.

Did any of you read the police report on CHS? Not that it's relevant, but this is is tied to Fickitol Hill how? The officers who responded were given no information that would lead them to think this was a "hate" crime. If someone, like the a-hole DJ who is now running his mouth, has further information, they need to contact the police. Nobody deserves to get beaten up, but all the info that the police have so far is that she was looking for a fight.

From the linked police report, it sounds like she was the one who started throwing punches at staff. The bouncers were probably huge guys who had no need to administer a beatdown like that, but it doesn't read like the crime was hate-motivated.

But who knows if that report is accurate... And I'll bet that they won't ever identify who did it, because the bouncers won't rat each other out.

Hey, just for the record, I want to insert that the fight I saw outside and jokingly referenced on Line Out was not (to my knowledge) the same alleged hate crime mentioned here.

My post does, however, mention the rather (anachronistically?) homophobic vibe, considering the party was headlined by a lesbian DJ.

I saw this girl in the club. Who couldn't see her she was wearing a sweet looking yellow shirt. I do not think she would have started any kind of fight. She was nothing but nice to me that night and I met her that night. My first time in Seattle and she was the first person I met.

Fyi to everyone. The cops were told it was a hate crime. They failed to report it as such. Even though the girl was called a "stupid dyke" while she was punched over and over.

Just so everyone knows the ACLU of Washington has already picked up the case. The girl who was hit through no punches. There were multiple fights that night. What happened to her was she was just sucker punched and the guy continued to hit her.

The cops got the guy who did its info. And there are witnesses including myself. The police report filed is basically a total lie. I read the whole thing and half the things they said in it are totally un true. Also there were multiple witnesses telling the same stories and pointing the guy who did it out. The ACLU plans to take up this case and will not allow this to go un-noticed.

Oh and the picture Samantha Ronson posted I sent to her because she said she would help spread the word and she has. The picture has over 40 thousand views already.

To the people saying that she was looking for a fight. Trust she was not. As I was right next to her when she guy sucker punched her and called her a stupid dyke and then continued to beat her up and kick her in the face. Her eye socket is fractured cause of this guy and still swollen shut.

How dare any of you say she deserved what happened or was looking for a fight when you were not there. And how dare the Seattle Police for filing it under a fight disturbance when she was beaten up because she was gay. Which is clearly a Hate Crime.

All I can say is in the coming weeks the ACLU will be making sure the guy who did this pays. And the cops who did not get witness statements, and did statements of the incident that are totally un true will be looked at in the courts.

IF anyone has any questions or was a witness contact me: riotgrrrlife@gmail.com because we need more witnesses.

Get off The Hill and into the streets. All of us queers who dont fall into protected classes are living with this violent reality daily.

I dunno...

This whole story seems a-fishy to me. If there were so many witnesses, how come nobody stepped in to stop it? Are people really that despicable????

Something looks off in that picture too. Photoshop????

SO KEEKEE--- Please be advised that we; ie, friends, family, and other lesbians, are used to people believing that a horrible crime could be so cut and dry! (Meaning, A guy hits a girl, the police come, guy goes to jail!) Please believe me when I tell you that is not the way it works! The story sounds "fishy" because it is "fishy"---BUT only "fishy" on the laws part. This photo is real, so real it was generated from my cell phone! Please, KeeKee follow this story and find the truth of how Gay Bashing is real and alive...

OH YA and please Someone tell GOOD GRIEF above that the "a-hole dj running his mouth" is a fuccing woman!!!

Do not speak about shit you do not even know....
